Weird bit of LA history

My son has gotten into urban exploring so I've been trying to take him to various locations like the abandoned LA zoo and others. We learned about an abandoned Nazi camp in the hills of Los Angeles which sounds silly but it's legit.

We told Jack about it and he got excited so we made a trip of it. Was definitely worth the effort. About a five mile hike round trip and a very steep set of stairs numbering over 500 steps.

The abandoned LA Zoo is still Jeremy's favorite place to explore. The first time I took him there he said it was the greatest day of his life. :biggrin:

Linda Vista Hospital. This is supposed to be the most haunted location in Los Angeles. I had a connection and one opportunity to go but Jeremy was a little younger and too scared. The hospital was closed due to substandard patient care and it was if everyone just up and left. Patient files were strewn all over the place as well as all manner of medical equipment. There were even the cremated remains of John and Jane Does left there.

It's being turned into condos for seniors. Best of luck to them. Place will always be haunted.

Great stuff! thanks for sharing, I love weird local history like this. We have an abandoned subway tunnel system and some old pre-Prohibition breweries in the Cincinnati OH area.

The subway tunnels are pretty sealed off but they do give tours. In the 80s people used to go into them all the time. The breweries are getting reused. It seems like every month a new brewery opens in Cincinnati but some of them are still around and they also give tours. It's cool that they allow the general public to access the old LA zoo.

Not sure for how much longer. Every time we go there, there is more and more damage from vandals. They boarded up the structure ut you can still go in. Just recently someone went in and tore half the ceiling down. We love visiting these places but the dick holes in LA (of which there are many) eventually ruin everything.

No trouble at all. I've been switched to a night shift at work so we don't get out as often but we still plan on going out on weekend trips.

Not that we don't have a million Disneyland pictures. His second favorite thing to do.
