I know I ask once a year but...

...does anyone have Avalanche, the original download from 2000 or from whenever? The CD version is so goddamn muddy I can't take it anymore.

Please! For the love of God!

Jesus it's been 11 years since I ordered the reissue? Is there a sound quality difference between the two?

yeah that's hard to believe!
I am not sure on quality between the two. I'll find both when I get home and check them out. I'll bet there is a sound difference. The re-issue included those Baseball Bill tracks and was most certainly remastered.

I know the first version was on some new label called Gimme Music, an internet sales only label. I do remember the initial release was pretty botched and not that many people got completed orders and that's why they did the re-issue later and tacked on the Efix songs that were only available on vinyl previously. The artwork is slightly different between the two, the original had a jewel case and the re-issue was a cardboard sleeve.

If I recall correctly Ivan said on the reissue they recorded Avalanche from a speaker to some sort of recording device which is why it sounds so muddy.

that would have to be the reissue on the store. The one that was a second gen copy of the original because they didn't have the masters. So, the muddy version.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I bought the MPEG-4 version from the store. But is that significant the quality difference?

Not sure but black francis seems to think so. I will have to dig mine out and give it a listen.

Just played a minute of Hang On To A Dream from the 2000 version and the 2003 version back to back. I hear no real difference.

If you ask me the reissue is the better version anyway because it includes the Baseball Bill tracks and the artwork is better/has a few pix. Also Ivan gets thanked in the reissue

I believe there will be a better quality sound in the 2000 version of Avalanche over the reissue. You should be home from work now. Hop to it!

This sounds familiar but I looked through the posts for Avalanche that go back to 2008 and I didn't see anything about this but maybe I missed it. They sound the same to me.
