That's pretty much how I feel about a good bit of the new stuff.

Also, he actually has a song called "Me and David Bowie"? Really?

I'll give it a listen to.

As expected, some of this stuff is bordering on adult contemporary. Like the Hall and Oates inspired The Party's Over. No more Bunnymen albums. Mac can just keep doing the solo thing. His voice sounds pretty good at least. It's weird how it keeps changing.

You Americans should stop being so negative.

I'm convinced those two have some American in them or have had in the past.

Gave it another listen and there are some interesting ideas there but it's overwhelmed by schmaltz. I still think Mac slept walked through the thing and those delays weren't because he's the Kevin Shields type obsessively tinkering in the studio seeking perfection. I'm sure there were many a "that'll do".
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Must be the worst marketed album even by Pledgemusic's standards, which didn't bode well. In these days of the interwebs, giving people a few snippets of demos doesn't quite cut the mustard especially when many bands now stream the whole damn album. Is there really nothing on there of any quality, say something along the lines of Arthur, Kansas or Stake Your Claim, which while not ace, were alright songs. The stuff on youtubes is piss poor and probably not helped by the recording. Somewhere In My Dreams. Somewhere not in my ears more like.

[quote="Malbert"]I like the music. In fact, I love the "Empty as a House" tune. But imo, he has become Neil Diamond. His voice is weak and it sounds like he's barely making an effort. quote]

don't insult neil diamond like that!!

I'm still more of a Slideling person, but this is no worse than Will's new solo album. Both strike me as atmosphere music. It's not Bunnymen, but I'm gonna disregard any flaws PPM might have at the moment because it fits my mood musically.

I was hoping I was going to like this. I like WAYGTDWYL. This isn't even close. It's The Fountain Pt 2.
The thing that bugs me the most is the cheesy production on the backing tracks. Mac's voice is ok and all, or what we've come to expect at least. In short, there were a few songs I enjoyed but overall it's nothing to fuss over. I was really hoping to like this more.

I guess I am not even sure why there is Mac solo vs the Bunnymen. Usually lead singers will step out to do something that is a bit different from their main band. There is virtually no difference anymore with Mac and Bunnymen albums now.

The Idolness Of Gods aside this album bares no comparison to The Fountain at all. If its part 2 of anything it's Candleland.

I like it in the main, possibly a bit over produced in places, in the same way as the title track from The Fountain, which is a really good song acoustically.
