Lana Del Raey

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

I dig lots of women musicians--just not manufactured ones.

Her daughter knows she's crackers, but that was some good rhyming.

Florence Welch - her singing is really awful. You ever heard her live? Gawd, what a racket.

I think her voice is powerful, but like I said, she's not my style. And I know we're talking about women, here, but I could never understand Bruce Springsteen's appeal. He's awful.

Never heard it called that before. Was it an extended 'remix'?

Pat Benatar is IMO the best female rocker ever.

So you don't like Blondie? Or Shirley Manson? Or Fiona Apple?

Name some you like? They're manufactured. Any major label is going to have major input into the image of their artist. There is too much to lose.

If you want to see a female musician that isn't manufactured stick to open mic night at your local bohemian bar.

Enjoy this early Deborah Harry recording before she realized the money was in new wave and punk.

There's a difference between "crafted" and "manufactured," IMO.

Your aforementioned examples all had talent BEFORE the suits at the record labels got to them. This Del Ray character.........

Taking someone with either no or marginal talent who happens to have the right "look" for pop success and building up an image around them a la Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson is what I object to.

No talent? How so? She sings in key and has a strong voice. I don't hear any layering or autotune - at least nothing to the effect of Spears.

What is the issue?
Comparing Del Rey to Spears is weak.

If that is the case we might as well wipe half the Motown performers off the list of musicians.

I don't like her--hence, she has no talent.

So there! I win the argument.

Ah, I see the Simpson and Spears comparison. They are all women.
