Rendition Flights?

Postby withahip » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:52 pm

Can one get a cheaper ticket by piggy backing on one of these rendition flights?

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Bush administration asked a judge to throw out a lawsuit claiming a unit of Chicago-based Boeing Co. falsified flight plans to disguise the CIA's delivery of suspected terrorists to secret prisons where they were tortured.

The lawsuit, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union in May, alleges Boeing's Jeppesen Dataplan business helped transport terrorism suspects on more than 70 flights to countries where they weren't protected by U.S. law. On Tuesday, the Justice Department asked U.S. District Judge James Ware to throw the case out.

'Grave consequences': If allowed to proceed, the suit would reveal "still-classified details" of the CIA's interrogation program, Justice Department lawyer Michael Abate said.

That would cause "serious, in some cases exceptionally grave, consequences to national security," he said.

There were protests at Prestwick Airport a while back because it was getting used as a refuel stop.

We've had protests due to the same problem at Shannon.

This didn't make the news here. The Seattle and Chicago papers were the only mainstream news outlets I found that covered the story and even they only had that blurb!

Kook. Is that you at the front with the placard? Is it a wooly hat or an overgrown perm your sporting?

WAH There's been a few things happening over here that don't make the mainstream news either. I've found out more from our newspaper's Comments sections these days than I do from the paper itself.

I thought that was just an American thing. "We feel really bad about the death and destruction. Can we call it even then?"

That is nothing - you should read up on how they got to turn the island into a millitary base.

This also makes interesting reading -
