Do It Clean 1983 Albert Hall versions

Postby Mr. Brian » Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:24 pm

someone e-mailed me this and off the top of my head I don't know the answer and haven't listened to this in a while. I think there was a thread a while back about this too and I can't find it...

There's a 6:38 live version of "Do It Clean" on "The Killing Moon" 12"
that says it was recorded on 7-18-1983.

There's a 9:40 live version of "Do It Clean" on "New Live & Rare" CD
that says it was recorded on 7-18-1983.

These are clearly NOT the same version. And they're not the version on
the official "Live At Royal Albert Hall" album which was recorded on
7-19-1983.

Any ideas which one is correct?

Is the 6:38 version an edit of the 9:40 version?

Mr. Brian, I think you have to step down as admin of this site now. You're supposed to be all-knowing about all things Bunny. How disappointing.

The video of that show is easily found - listening to that back to back with the recording would answer your question.

I found the other thread I was thinking of.

In the thread it says the Albert Hall version and the "New Live & Rare" version aren't the same and have different songs in the middle of the tune.

Someone said that the the "New Live & Rare" version is from the same show as the other live tracks on that CD ...Gothenburg, Sweden April 25, 1985.

...they did two sets at Gothenburg, a set of covers and then another set of their songs and Do It Clean is not on the setlists I've seen, however someone else notices that Ian says "clever Swedes" to the handclapping in the "New Live & Rare" version so I dunno maybe it is Gothenburg, it certainly can't be RAH or an edit then.

Agreed, especially if he does say "clever Swedes". I guess New Live and Rare has bad info that's been passed around because it says RAH on the notes:

He says "Clever swedes...good handclapping".Plus the version includes a segue into Lucille which they never did in 83.

Maybe you can be co-moderator with Dave. That YouTube suggestion was extremely helpful and productive to the discussion.

Threads like this make me sick.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Yeah, I figured since it has the exact date on it, it would be.

That would have been helpful if I had access to all versions to compare! That also wouldn't explain the origin of the New Live and Rare one since the liner notes say it is the RAH 18th show.

Wait a minute - you don't own everything the Bunnymen ever put out?

And you have this site?

Pete and Peasy are going to hear about this.
