27 September: U2 support Echo and the Bunnymen in London's Lyceum Ballroom.

The justification for bashing U2 in favor EATB ended in 1989.

In the US maybe where success and quality is rated by size and sales.

Would be great if the roles were reversed.

Not sure how a theatre style venue for 2500-3000
would cope with "Liverpool I know we can overcome, by working
together, we can live as One>"

Or how Wembley Stadium would cope with "Erm, Knock Knock"

If the quality of the first four albums (especially the first three) had continued I'd say most definitely.

I would argue anything after 1987 for U2 was mediocre at best, complete crap at worst, so it's hard to give current U2 props...

And Bunnymen's first 4 were better collectively by a mile than U2's first 4.

Achtung is a good album. They took a real chance, calculated or not, putting out an album that diverged from the U2 formula.

But now that you mention it, nothing stands out after a couple tracks from Pop.

Things heard at a U2 concert.

"I love that song, you know that One they do."

"woo Yeah"

And from the Audience...

No such crap heard at a Bunnymen Concert, that's where the
real fans go.

Must admit I do quite like I Will Follow, brilliant simple, and All I want Is You
is pretty good too. Sorry had to say that.

This is some kind of test. I know it! Must not give in...must be strong...
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Yes, actually, it is heard quite often.

I am sure if you widdled a U2 concert down to the size of a EATB show, those fans would know every song by the band.

Urban Myth.......

U2 never supported The Bunnymen, the reality is that the Lyceum used to hold London showcase concerts every Sunday featuring up and coming bands.... They both played for the same length of time, just that U2 played before the Bunnymen..... The truth is that they were co-headliners....

Doesn't stop the fact the Bunnymen were the better band........

Okay, I'll bite.

I think the music industries in both countries are guilty of plying their respective music-buying publics with sheer crap. And last time I checked, all of the Spice Girls were multimillionaires and considered successful as an act, despite their obvious musical shortcomings.

My point---the attributes of "success" and "quality" are rated by size and sales in the UK, as well. It's really up to the intelligent, discriminating music lover to determine for him- or herself what is aesthetically pleasing.

Why even bite? Just read Kill Your Friends by John Niven or you will end up saying something like yes, it is not like England where being small and inconsequential is a virtue. You'll just regret saying something like that on this American EATB message board.
