a music engineer buddy of mine who works at mobile fidelity sound labs said he saw some bunnymen tape / digital files and they were going to be cut to vinyl...so maybe there is a high fidelity audiophile issue of ocean rain coming down the pike?!

Not sure I understand what this would be. A remaster on vinyl?

Not to derail this already but high up on my list would be a remix of the Grey Album. Basically a rougher mix instead of that compressed late 80's mix they released. Those songs are much better in the demos and live versions I've heard.

Agreed. I would also like to hear the tracks recorded with David Palmer.

Who produced Jimmy Brown? I like the raw sound of that recording.

A lot of people prefer the warmth of a vinyl recording over digital.

Rhino has been known for releasing limited-run pressings of classic albums on heavyweight vinyl. It's obvious from the number of reissues and repackagings that have come out over the last decade that the Bunnymen have exactly zero control over how the label chooses to exploit their back catalogue. With the success of the Ocean Rain shows, an audiophile pressing seems logical, though they kind of missed the boat - the appropriate time to release a limited edition vinyl pressing of Ocean Rain would've been DURING the Ocean Rain tour.

I like the idea of a high-quality vinyl pressing. I am concerned, however, that tapes and "digital files" were seen. Going from analogue recordings to digital then to vinyl sort of defeats the whole purpose of releasing on vinyl.

Exactly and yes it seems that this should have been done during the Ocean Rain shows instead of 2 years later.

oo echo and the bunnymen naked eh? DD et al (who was that who used to post pictures of Will's eyes?) will be drooling. If they rerecorded OR with the arrangements used in the live shows I'd be interested, maybe. Otherwise I have too many copies of that album already.

Interestingly, Reverberation is the one LP that is much better on CD rather than vinyl.

yep. that was the one where the producer wauited fro the band to go to the pub and then put a completely different singer on.

basically the vinyl grooves are cut at half the regular speed taking information off of tape that runs at slower speed and this allows more information on the record for the needle to read. they've done the mobile fidelity sound labs - MFSL - half speed masters editions of beatles, thriller, steely dan that kind of thing for many years, i'm hopeful that this will be a really, really good sounding version of ocean rain...

I wonder when they recorded it 27 years or so they'd ever imagine they'd be able to milk this album to the extent they have.

I'm sorry but I'd rather hear a new album of songs that return to form and vocals that are strong and vibrant, than having to add yet another copy of OR to my collection. Plus, my turntable broke a long time ago.

Records and turntables? I stopped playing and using those in 1935 when I sold my British 1-D McGibbons Mono TM mahogany cased phonograph player. I then briefly enjoyed slightly crackling recordings of Marlene Dietrich's "Wenn die Beste Freundin" and speeches from Adolf Hitler on an imported German Magnetophon reel-to-reel recording machine, before later buying audio cassettes. I then invested in a DCC hi-fi machine and replaced my entire music collection with DCC as the popular BBC science and technology show Tomorrow's World had said that they were the future and they were much cheaper than rival DAT format.

I am holding out for the wax cylinder release so I can break out the Amberola 50 player and hear music as it was intended by Edison.

God only knows who this would be geared for. I'm donating most of my Ocean Rain collection to the local orphanage so count me out.
