Queen were half brilliant and half Spinal Tap. For all their pretentiousness and turgid albums, songs like "Spread your Wings" are up there with "In The Margins."
As for Morrisey solo, has he ever done a song as good as "What Time Is Now" on his own, or "Meat is Murder?"

I think they sort of did it on purpose. They were glam rock at its dubious best and completely out of the closet while leaner and meaner than say...The Village People.

Do you mean, "How Soon Is Now?" That was a brilliant song. Simple yet effective. The Smiths had many greats. Morrissey solo has a great audience, but not as great as back then. Another group that should have found a way to stay together in the first place, though, it has gone better for Morrissey than it ever went for McCulloch.

I left queen behind after a night at the opera. Though the only other one I ever got was Sheer Heart Attack. The first time I ever came across the word (or words even) cross collateralise. All that dressing up in white and putting 'no synthesizers' on the album sleeve never really caught my imagination.

As for mozza,I think lyrically he has but none of his collaborators have had that depth - suedehead, every day is like sunday and right up to let me kiss you which has the same angsty fear as 'so you go on your own, and you leave on your own and you cry and you want to die, but not as funny. And all the lazy dykes. Whats not to like? Quite alot of moz by numbers though these days.
