Mac should just go for it; he still has a little of the higher vocal range to pull it off as a live performance, as much as he can sing parts of The Cutter. And, agreed, he should play his guitar... all the way.

If they're going to do all of the album, then he's got to do A Promise. And with no help from some other singer. Also Stars Are Stars. Time for Mac to start working with a vocal coach and lay off the vices. And then do both albums in the U.S. too.

I sincerely hope he can regain enough of his voice to do A Promise justice and not just croak and rasp his way through it! Plus he needs to play the guitar for that song at least. That's what makes it so special - his jingle jangle guitar part in the middle (as well as the vocals).

He referred to his early vocal style as "cringeworthy and over-the-top" but that level of emotion was what MADE "A Promise" so effective--a certain fragility, like he was going to have a breakdown over promises broken, or desperately trying to keep promises. Like his voice was about to crack because he was trying his best not to cry.

He didn't do too bad a job of it in Glasgow last year.

Dunno, now if it was HUH and Porcupine ...

Next he will be referring to the hair he had in his youth as "cringeworthy and over-the-top." and how his new style is so much better. Does everyone become delusional in old age?

hahaha!!! It did become quite over the top in 1988. It was cool up until then. Then it was like it was trying too hard. The higher the hair, the great the hubris with that one.

Using the same computer skills that allowed me (with a bit of extra hardware plugged in) to convert my computer into a time machine, I broke into the BOF despite being banned (it's great to bitch-slap a bully) but I don't know why I bothered because you can't say that sort of thing over there without your post disappearing in the night, a bit like the opposition in certain former South American dictatorships.
Also, though the flash introduction is not bad, it's let down by a monotonous song from The Fountain in the background (don't ask me which one, they all sound the same) and listening to it depressed me.
The only reason I posted there was to find out where to send a video of some new bands I made to Mac and Will, just to remind them what "guts and passion" really mean.
If Mac can't stay off the cigarettes, at best it will only be as good as the "Live In Liverpool" concert, as seen on DVD, which was OK but not outstanding.
More likely, on the first gig he'll sing one third of the songs before reaching the high notes makes his throat bleed, and then resort to spoken word songs and banter for the rest of the gig. Naturally the other gigs will be mysteriously cancelled.
Should I book a hotel and risk wasting my time and money when it could be better spent on following a band that would have beat them even in their prime?
I have been wrong in the past-I wrote them off after the WAYGTDWYL tour disaster but afterwards the Flowers tour was the best the thing they had ever done. But it's nearly a decade later. Do miracles happen twice?

Well, if I go it will be for Crocodiles at the most - it's impossible for even Mac croakey to fuck that up. Not exactly wanting a Crocodiles-exact sounding album, I have always thought that should of been the direction of that the band should have gone after Siberia. An album of nine or 11 guitar-driven, uptempo rock tunes. Not quite Electrafixion, but something to get your toes tapping and rough around the edges. Fitting in nicely with Mac's vocal abilities. None of that ballads shit or pop "for the kids" tunes. That's why, for me, hearing and seeing Crocodiles performed in its full entirety will be like seeing the kind of Bunnymen that I'd hoped would have emerged in the last few years.

Fuck it I'm going to break my Bunnymen embargo and go, it could well be a complete disaster but the novelty of seeing them at the Olympia instead of the rat hole that is the Academy has swung it. Don't let me down Mac!

I really enjoyed seeing New Order at the Olympia in 2001, thought it was a great venue. Always been surprised about the lack of gigs there......

I would love to see one of these shows but have a feeling I will have to settle for a recording.

However, everyone is kidding themselves if they think they are going to hear Mac sing anything from HUH much less "A Promise" like he did when he was in his 20's. Those songs are meant to be yelped at times and have that operatic bellowing he was so good at then. They have really barely played anything from HUH in the last 10 years as I recall. I would be very surprised if he played any guitar either.

I would love to be wrong. Please prove me wrong Mac.

I'm only going if Cheesey promises to reveal himself at the official unofficial VT pre gig meet.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Its a good gig venue but I think it's location lets it down, its in the middle of nowhere really...its a taxi ride from the city centre.
