Jimmy Page interview

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Jimmy Page interview

Postby Kounelaki » Fri Jan 01, 2010 4:20 am

"When the Guitar Hero video game came out I could see that it would be good for dad and the kids at Christmas," says Jimmy Page, "but in terms of how it relates to proper guitar playing you might as well play a pinball machine."

Anyone who thinks they are really playing guitar when they're playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band is seriously mentally deranged.

I never got the "learn to play a real guitar man!" thing. I don't go around telling people that play racing games that they should race a real race car or people that play Tiger Woods golf to cheat on their hot wives for real man.

Are you telling me that however much I play Spyro I will never actually fulfill my dream of becoming a cute, purple fire breathing dragon with a dragonfly for a best mate? Shucks, day one of 2010 and my ambitions are already shattered.

Yeah, some of these musicians seem really threatened by it for some bizarre reason (hi Mac) it's like someone telling me I should be out really shooting people in the face instead of pretending to do it on Call Of Duty or something.

I actually prefer the joy of shooting people in the face for real instead of doing it with a fake gun in my living room.

I prefer a hybrid of the two. I shoot people in the face for real... in my living room.

I won't be getting my damage deposit back.

It's too bad we won't ever see any Zeppelin songs in a game until maybe Activision or someone starts waving a ton of money and Page and Plant (or their survivor heirs) for an exclusive game deal like the Beatles. Maybe Frank can shoot them in his living room to get it started.

I told some idiot at work that I got my brother DJ Hero, and the guy asked, "Oh, is he a DJ?" I asked him if he played in the NFL because he plays Madden.

I fantasize about being a star NFL quarterback taking a shower in the locker room. Close enough?

NHL 10 has changed my life. I am trying out for the NHL. Forget the farm teams. I'm ready to go pro.

There's gonna be a Disney movie about you starring Marky Mark soon. I can feel it.

The kids who have the desire and determination to do more than play Guitar Hero WILL do that. They will find each other just like our Bunny Boys found each other. And when the need arises, a bass will be bought a week before a gig (and will later turn into a rather noteworthy bassist), a drummer will appear out of nowhere (and turn into one of the largely unrecognized best ever), and untried singer/songwriter (will later develop a 3 octave range and write 100s of songs-some of which are great and some of which suck)) and a guitarist will play his solos on one string (and later develop a noteworthy individual style and learn to play on 2-3 strings--his joke.)

It takes drive to create and keep creating even when not many want to listen. Pere Ubu comes to mind. http://ubuprojex.net/

But those who don't have that drive are better off just playing Guitar Hero and racking up points.
