The Obligatory Depeche Mode thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Don't drive there whatever you do, I had the dubious pleasure of dropping off and picking up my youngest sprog and her mates there last night (Paramore) and getting in and out of Manchester in the car was a nightmare. After the show the police had closed the roads around the arena because of the crowds, causing chaos for the traffic and much swearing and gnashing of teeth from your's truly! Never again, mind you I think I said that last time.

Yeah well, I think the M.E.N. Arena holds 18,000 people, the capacity of the Academy is a tad less so I doubt there's a special police operation planned for the next three nights!

What's a tad less? 3000 capacity?
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

1,500 to be exact
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

I could corrupt you
In a heart beat
You think your so special
Think your so sweet
What are you trying don't even tempt me
Soon you'll be crying unwishing you dreamt of be
You'll be calling out my name
When you need someone to blame

I can corrupt you
It would be easy
Watching you suffer
God, it would please me

I wanna touch you with my little finger
I know it will crush you my memory would linger
You'd be crying out in pain
Begging me to play my games

I can corrupt you
It will be ugly
They could sedate you
But i wanna touch you with my hands on your hips
It would be too much to
Place my lips on your lips
You'll be calling out my name
Begging me to play my games

I hope your show is as special to you as it was for me and the missus.

BF

Absolutely fantastic show. Weather was abit of a downer, 0 degrees when we left Liverpool on the train falling to minus 6 when we left the venue. My only concession to this was wearing a long sleeved T shirt under my DM T shirt (Devotional tour if your interested, special to me as it was the last one with Alan) so I was bloody freezing by the time we got home.

MEN not quite sold out but only a few seats left in the upper tiers. We had standing tickets and room to bounce. Daniel Miller (yes, THE Daniel Miller) was walking through the crowd and chatting to people. This, of course, was DM's last gig of the decade so things felt abit special.

Its funny watching couples at DM gigs. There is generally one fanatical fan accompanied by their slightly uncomfortable partner who is obviously there under duress. Luckily Mrs S is (nearly) as in to them as I am, though she draws the line at my DM Remixes playlist on I Tunes.

Anyway, to the gig. Stage set very reserved by Anton Corbijn standards, it focuses you in on the music as opposed to the spectacle.

- In Chains
- Wrong
- Hole To Feed
- Walking In My Shoes
- It's No Good
- A Question Of Time
- Precious
- World In My Eyes
- Insight
- Home
- Miles Away / The Truth Is
- Policy Of Truth
- In Your Room
- I Feel You
- Enjoy The Silence
- Never Let Me Down Again

- One Caress
- Stripped
- Behind The Wheel
- Personal Jesus

I totally refute the suggestion the first hour isnt up to it, we thought it was fantastic. It took a few minutes during In Chains to get the vocals mixed properly and I must admit Wrong was abit muted. But other than that no complaints.

I also refute that their setlist is predictable. Insight hasnt been played for years and this was a piano/vocal arrangement as was Home. Home, in particular, I thought was excellent and would love to get a copy of that arrangement.

Bounced like a bastard to Walking In My Shoes (Devotional Tour arrangement with beefed up drums) and Its No Good. Thought Martin's guitar really made Precious and added a new dimension not included in the recorded version. In Your Room was the Butch Vig version (but done live) and I particularily liked the funky guitar in the outro to Enjoy The Silence. Went mad to A Question Of Time.

Would have preferred to have seen Come Back replace The Truth Is / Miles Away. Also would have liked Martin to have done Jezebel.

One Caress was a great way to start the encore and I dont think thats been played live since Devotional in 93. Similarily I havent heard Stripped since the Singles Tour. Me and the missus were going mental by this point. Finally an orgasmic double header of Behind The Wheel and Personal Jesus.

I admit I'm a DM fanatic but I thought it was (yet again) a superb performance. Dave was really up for it and the crowd responded. Martin's vocals are perhaps the best they have ever been and even Fletch was more animated than normal. A big shout out to Christain Eignar on drums - that guy is a powerhouse.

Its a shame each tour is 4 years apart.
