Leeds

All went a bit weird really. McCulloch got a bit of a weed on quite early, became more irritated when a security guard was conducting a conversation with someone at the front, told the guard to fuck off, told the person he'd been speaking to that she had "a face that could stop a fucking clock", got more and more wound up by some of the ageing dullards embarrassing themselves by jumping around like Phil Mitchell on a bouncy castle and calling him a 'scouse c*nt', told them they were a load of fucking knobheads, advised everyone that they should get Lou Reed's 'Take No Prisoners' album, reached meltdown when a few people started shouting 'Leeds, Leeds, Leeds', decided on two occasions that they weren't going to do the planned song, added the first half of You'll Never Walk Alone to Lips Like Sugar, and finished by pushing over the mikestand and storming off before they'd finished playing.

The odd thing is that they sounded better than they have in years. 'The Cutter', 'All That Jazz', 'Zimbo' & 'Rust' were close to god-like. In some ways it's good to see that he's still got a bit of the old fire left. And in truth, some of the people there were acting like massive tools. Made for a particularly tense atmosphere though.

PiL tonight. Come on, Lydon. The bar's been set now.

and did the guard do as told? Or was it a metaphorical 'fuck off, we'll talk about this later'.

Sounds like it was a great show. Bad Mood Ian is always fun to watch.

To his defense, why would the security guard be yapping with someone at all, never mind the front area?

Why do people spend all that money on tickets, transportation, etc., just to spend the show yapping and laughing and being rude?

It's a fine line between performing and being on display.

He wandered off, then came back a few minutes later and did it again. At which point Mac looked close to chinning him. For a while it looked like it was all going to go a bit York Festival, but he eventually got the hint. He had one of those dopey head-set things on too, which probably made things worse if anything.

It could be worse. Captain Sensible pulled a banana out from under his dress and tried to stick it in the security guard's mouth back at the Hollywood House of Blues.

Great show by the way. The Damned have never disappointed live.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Couldn't help thinking that Mac reminded me of some lonely old gorilla in a badly-lit zoo, pulling the same moves year after year for the promise of metaphorical bananas. A few times he seemed to have one of those 'what am I doing here?' looks on his face, and it was pretty clear that he couldn't wait to get back to a Liverpool stage (not that I can blame him).

I felt a bit sorry for him if anything, which is not something that'd ever really occurred to me before.

If only Jim Morrison had gone for the old 'banana' defence...

Agreed.

It feels like he is floundering and it is sad to see. I keep hoping the ship gets righted (or at least my idea of what righted would be) but I'm not expecting much nowadays.

He should just do what's right, bite the bullet and knock the Bunnymen on the head.

If I said I'd lost my way
Would you sympathize?
Could you sympathize?
I'm jumbled up
Maybe I'm losing my touch
I'm jumbled up
Maybe I'm losing my touch
But you know I didn't have it anyway

Won't you come on down to my

We've lost
And something's all we can do
With a hip-hip-hop
And a flip-flap-flop
Gonna steal some bananas
From the grocer's shop
With your head in the clouds
And your trousers undone
Gonna shit on the carpet
Just like everyone

Well he's less likely to get called a scouse c*nt.

It always used to seem a bit different when he was playing at home. There were fewer idiots trying to provoke him, although I recall quite an obvious footy crowd element in the Grafton in '84 which didn't go down too well.

To be honest I've not been to a Liverpool gig since 2005, so perhaps he gets stick there now as well. Even if it's just KOK scowling at him and pointedly shaking his fist.
