I have a tab section here (long neglected) but that song doesn't have a tab that I've ever found and I've never sat down to figure it out. I know there are some other guitar players on here. Maybe one of them can take a stab at it.

I'll give it a shot later - but I bet it is C-F-G or G-D-A.

Ok this song is pretty layered in a way that would make Johnny Marr proud.
I listened to it three times so this is half assed -

There are three parts 1. )The verse - 2.) Tell Me- and then 3.) the really slow part.

Maybe you guys can help me out

The first part is either a quick A (down or up stroke once and right to the) D chord or else an A to A7
While this is happening the bass seems to go from an A (say third string seventh fret) to a D (fifth fret).

On tell me - total guess - I hear a Dflat sliding up to a D twice and then G to a D chord on the third one. (He sings an E to D note on the ast one),

The really slow part is confusing because all I clearly hear is the D in the bass. Maybe a G and D - but the cello and strings along with his vocal melody make it tough. Especially only after three listens.

A wonderful song and great cd.

I'm a bit of a hacker when it comes to this kind of stuff. I get what sounds close and its good enugh for me. So with that in mind.....

i reckon that first bit (and the main verse) is whatever the chord is thats a D with the D flattened to C# - so youre barring the top three strings at the second fret, and then just stick your finger on to make it a D as ther second part of the little riffette. THe bass run seems to go down from a D, C#, B A, though it may go down to the D an octave down.

In the verse it does that D (with a C#) to a D throughout but drops to a quick G chord and back to D for the last line.

Think youre right abut the D flat slide up to D for the tell me tell me tell me, though the last tell me (be me or whatever he's banging on about at this stage)

And the chorus is just D and G

(D )what are you going to do........ dum dum dum (G)dum with your (D)life

and the wandering cello goes AGAGF#GF# and wobbles about between the G anf F# and drops down a bit, and the sarge sort of mimics this with a bit of jingly jangly up the top end of his own fret board. Its fairly typical bunnymen inthat it sounds more complicated that it is and, well, love those cellos. I'd have liked to hear some cellos on the fountain. n not to mention the angels jiombo 's mate reckoned they had lined up.

Sounds like we came up with the same thing. (And a hack is what I consider myself.) The C# you are talking about would make that D and F# minor though wouldn't it?
That's why I thought it was an A to either a D or an A7 which would be pretty close.

It is hard to hear with the layerings, Mac's melody line an the bass line.

Unless someone was going for an exact interpretation between the two there should be enough to go on.

And nice job on the cello line.

Nice figuring out a song on the net without some gear head Malmsteen wannabe either getting super technical or dismissing the value of the song because there aren't 400 notes.

.

thing about chords, the bit of music theory i have says they can have be more than one name. i'd probably say its a d maj7. the brilliant thing about the song - giving it its feel is that it sounds like a minor key but isn't. I htink thats what i mean. its the cellos.

This all sounds right to me, so basically it's:

(D bar with a quick slide up the root from a D flat to the D root)
If I knew now what I knew then
I'd wonder how not wonder when
There's something going wrong again
With (G)me and (D)mine

(same as before)
It's only ever what it seems
Memories and might have beens
Heaven's scent the smell of dreams
We'll never find

(Dflat)Tell (D)me, (Dflat)Tell (D)me, (G)tell (D)me

(D)What are you going to do (G) with your (D)life? (throw in a little jangly Dsus4)
(D)What are you going to do (G) with your (D)life? (throw in a little jangly Dsus4)

What are you going to (G)do?
What are you going to (D)be?
What am I going to (G)do?
I'm going to (D)be me, (D)be me, (D)be me

(same as other verses)
If I could see what you can see
The sun's still shining out of me
I'd be the boy I used to be
When love was blind
I'd let the light back in again
Walk you to the tunnel's end
I'd be yours and maybe then
You'd be mine

(same as before)
So tell me, tell me, tell me

repeat chorus

(G)I (D)will, if (G)you (D)will
(A)Follow me (G)do-(D)own......

Looks good - I'd throw in the cello line FC came up with for the heck of it on the transcription.

I really do think the very first chord before the D is an A. One down stroke and then upstroke to the D (or possible A7 which is almost the same chord) for the rest of the line.

Then again, maybe my guitar was out of tune.

* stroke jokes from BF - wait for it

Have I become that predictable? Do I need a new schtick? Or maybe this is your guy's way of saying I'm no longer welcome here?
