So What's The Final Verdict on The Fountain?

I go with Mr Sparkle and Dr Cheese exactly on their reviews. Again, it's neither a bad or really good album. Uptempo version of WAYGTDWYL?, which I think is a better album. I was going to do an amazon review... three out of five.

The only MP3 tracks I ended up buying were Forgotten Fields, Do You Know Who I Am?, Shroud of Turin and Everlasting Neverendless (those really featuring Will). I also bought The Fountain, largely as I wanted to hear if it was any better than the version that I'd heard on the radio (which sounded very quiet). Nice song, but all that Hallelujah stuff spoils it. The other tracks didn't really float my boat. I think though it could end up the Bunnymen's most successful album since WAYGTDWYL?

Yes, but how many bands have a four year stretch of material which can come close to matching the quality of 80-84 Bunnymen? Maybe we should be comparing it with other 2009 releases by other bands?

The rest of the album didn't float my boat. It sunk too quickly after hearing The Idolness of Gods and Think I Need It Too. I wasn't going to spend anymore after the boat sunk.

I'm starting to be more selective with albums, opting to buy a handful of MP3s - it saves having to make the effort to press the forward button on the CD player.

I'm not complaning. I knew we couldn't expect the early stuff.
I'm glad we have new material to listen to, but as I mentioned on the official forum, it is not an album I would use to introduce a friend into the Bunnymen.

i like the album a lot. nothing that stands out as brilliant, but there are a lot of things i like, now having listened to it a few times. its a little too poppy for my taste as the bunnymen, but that's what they wanted with the producer they chose... the album is very radio friendly, and i hope they get some success with it.

i disagree that it sounds like a mac solo album, but there are definitely songs that are more mac-influenced. Will is on most of the album, just very hard to hear sometimes usually buried in the background - definitely better with headphones or played loud in the car. :)

my only real complaint is some of the lame lyrics that take away from the music. (some parts of do you know who i am, and proxy's repetitive chorus especially). i do like the lyrics on shoud of turin and the fountain though.

overall i like this better than WAYGDWYLWTFBBQ and flowers. i think as a whole album its a stronger release than siberia too, even though there are tracks on siberia that i really like.

either way, i'm looking forward to seeing the band in november. :)

Nothing excites me about it.

Seriously - bite me. I've listened to BBC Radio and there is a ton of crap music on there.

The Flaming Lips just put out a double cd with interesting weird music that is selling out all over the USA. Pre-orders for The Fountain are small.
