From what I understand the guitar playing was cut and pasted together to make that riff.

So I guess if you play the guitar for half an hour and someone goes through all the notes you played an pieces them together in a new way to make a new riff - I guess you wrote it.

IM: It didn't differ a lot at all. All I used to do with Will was say "This is what I've got. Now paint your bit on it" and that's how it's always been pretty much. I think it was Les who came up with that riff for "The Killing Moon" but even that was written the same way really.

i believe massive attack have produced several albums on that very principle. and i guess its a measure of how much authority you have as a producer to get credit for stuff like that - or not.

Craig Armstrong pretty much wrote Weather Storm - I thought Heat Miser was his riff but I don't see him getting credit. Anyway good excuse for a MA thread.

He's my old neighbour Craig Armstrong, he was given song writing credits for the work he did with Massive Attack..... He's a great guy and am chuffed he's doing so well, should check out his two bands The Dolls and Winona, well worth a listen....

If you like piano I would suggest trying to get a copy of his classical album "Memory Takes My Hand" and maybe check out some of his movie soundtracks.....

I was lucky enough to catch him play the piano album live in a tiny theatre in Glasgow a few years back, easily enters my top ten gigs attended.........

Already possess them lol, I assume you have the two fab cd's Budd recorded with Robin Guthrie.......

I highly recommend you listen out for...... Jóhann Jóhannsson and try listen to his cd " And In The Endless Pause There Came The Sound Of Bees " .....
