Dylan

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Mmm... Brandon seem to like him okay. He seemed to always be telling everyone, "You're not my father", which got old. He caused problems between Brenda and Kelly, too, which is kind of crappy.

Never could get into Dylan even though FB and Neal Halstead seem to be disciples

The other Dylan spits hot fire
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I just didn't get Bob Dylan for the longest time. Then I saw the Scorcese documentary and it all clicked and I was blown away and he made sense to me. With someone like Dylan you have to put him in the context of his times as well as not confuse the real Dylan with the caricature or parody that everyone has of him. That's hard to do.

i saw that - and he seemed to be talking normal - as opposed to on his radio show where he talks like bob dylan. was into his stuff in my teens though haven't bought anything post blood on the tracks. haven't really heard much and not felt inclined to. That bob dylan tribute (the one with sinead o connor being shouted) was quite awful - loads of really bad covers followed by the man himself who was possibly worse. That sixties one - was that bringing it on back home or something - pennibacker (or something) is good, winding up journos, getting bored, smoking cigarettes, sungallsees after dark. Blond on blond is a killer album as is desire and bringing it on home (?). Whats not to get really - words, funny voice and a guitar, ten minute epics two minutes of bile. brilliant.

He was a pretty amazing musician and performer. He had a great aesthetic and pursued it unabashedly. The total package. He was also so friggin' YOUNG.

Good old Gmail to the rescue. I was asked by a friend a few years back to list my top 10 required listening albums and this was one of the entries I wrote in my list.

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan (1963)
Worth it for the work of art cover alone that tells a million stories itself. Listen to the original "Blowin' In The Wind" in context and the veil will be lifted. It was like a religious awakening to finally understand the genius of Dylan. When people like Elvis, Dylan or Lennon get simultaneously elevated and parodied like they did, it's easy to lose track of who they really were.

Standout track: Don't Think Twice It's Alright

Dylan is the like the original Star Trek, sometimes just brilliant, other times just embarrassing as can be.

I heard an interview not long ago with Suze Rotolo, the girl on the cover. She said they were freezing their asses off.

She inspired the song "Don't Think Twice It's Alright."
