Mac at Zeligs 12 March 2009-quick review

A mixture of brilliance and mardiness.NLF was stunning.Nice to hear Magical World after all these years and Waiting for My Man with guest performance from Miles Kane was spot on at the end.But..............after restarting Rust for being too slow Mac's mood seemed to change. A green light on the stage caused irritation,as did a) a bloke walking the 'wrong way' to the toilet,b) a bloke who shouted something to be told 'I'd rather people like you didnt come' c) a women who was 'cackling' too loud d)when Gordy's guitar cut out and the tech came onstage they were accused of 'spazzing' about during Zimbo and then he stops Killing Moon completely and gives a chap a lecture about manners. All good cabaret but not really enducive to a coherent gig.

However his voice was spot on and it was still a really enjoyable,if somewhat different, night.

What the hell gets in to him? Is it an act? A defense mechanism?

In my opinion he thinks he's charming/funny/entitled when he does this stuff and it is part of the act. I usually try to ignore any type of hissy fit behavior and just focus on the music. Although in his defense, it must be a real bitch to be trying to perform and have the audience members rudely chattering away.

It's good to hear that the voice is still holding up.

I was wondering how the pizza was.

Any photos???

I think he's just not comfortable on stage in that close environment. The crowd weren't rowdy at all.He also said the gig was weird but what did he expect at a restaurant?Reverential silence? He gives it out he has to take it.His voice sounded awesome though but everytime I've seen him in these intimate gigs,at least one song hasnt been finished due to him throwing a wobbly.

Next review from me 23 april for the re-match.

At the london solo gig he did that with 'suzanne'. Was about the best thing he'd done too then just stopped, moaned about it being too slow. Did he have the band with him or just gordon the gofer?

He had the full band minus Will. I agree with the voice, he sounded fantastic, but he did spoil it a bit with the strops, and did you see him smash the bottle? Strange behavior.

Speaking of Gordon, how camp is his style? All that arm twirling and hip swinging. Not good.

Why / how did he smash a bottle? I imagine he was off his face again(?)
Every word is like an unnecessary stain on silence and nothingness.

Thanks for the review. I'm glad to hear Mac's voice is still doing well. As far as the antics go you know those crazy rock and roll kids!

At least no television sets went through any windows.

They should play with a metronome if he is going to have all these tempo complaints all the time.

I love that his voice is sounding so good, though. I would have liked to see it.

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

That is a great set list. Sounds like he could not have been that miserable if he kept on playing.
If it is a small show, good on him telling the chatter box to shut up.

I loved seeing him solo at a smaller venue but a rowdy crowd can seem worse than it really is in a smaller joint. For all the joking about Mac doing a pizza hut I would have loved to have seen it.
