Bayh Opposes Obama Spending Plan

Thursday, Mar 5, 2009 @11:31am CST

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh says he will vote against a pending 410-billion dollar catchall federal spending bill because he is unhappy with its cost.
Bayh, along with Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, also urged President Barack Obama to veto the bill if it passes later this week.
The White House has signaled that Obama will sign the bill even though it contains almost eight-thousand pet projects sought by lawmakers, calling the measure last year's business.

Maybe Obama should just follow Bush's lead and spend it to bail out Iraq instead.

(are we allowed to reference Bush's spending record? It's been a few months. I know that's ancient history now)

When Jim Cramer is calling out Obama's spending agenda you know there's problems with it.

And no you can't reference Bush anymore despite Obama's insistence in blaming him still.

Jim Cramer? The guy that urged us to buy Stearns? The guy who advised to buy when prices were too far up and believe they would keep going up despite common sense?
Cramer is lame.

I look more to Geitner and the "bang up" job he did with the IMF. That is warning enough.

Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., is actually the second-biggest earmarker, according to the list, with 64 earmarks worth $114 million. Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., is a few notches down, with 65 earmarks worth $76 million.

Both are expected to support the omnibus bill -- along with Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe, who has zero earmarks.

They would help Reid attain the 60 votes needed to shut off debate on the bill and move it toward final passage. A number of other Republicans are considered possible supporters, and all of them have earmarks to gain.

Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., for instance has $86 million in earmarks; Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has $74 million; and Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., has $25 million.
Shelby told FOX News Monday that he's vetted all his earmarks.

Has anyone seen Cramer? It's like taking investment advice from Adam Sandler, Howard Stern &/or that toothless guy at the annual parking lot carnival operating the Tilt-o-Whirl and taking upskirt photos of teenage girls as they ride

Go ahead and dismiss him but he's dead on about Obama and the economy.

Well, that is like shooting fish in a barrel. Especially when the second largest bunch of earmarks are by a Republican. This was a mutual effort designed by more the Congress and less Obama.

well our nice mr brown still blames the conservatives for all the crap and they haven't been in power for over a decade. and in some resepcts he's right, and in some respects most people are starting to think he's lost his grip on reality - if he ever had it.

Cuz that would be like blaming Stalin for the Russian slaughter? Once the person is gone so is the effect they had on history? Hitler is not to blame for Nazism?

Still? Obama has been in office for less than two months.

Yes but didn't Obama say he was going to go line by line and remove earmarks with a scalpel? Or am I thinking of someone else?

There has always been an unwritten agreement that you don't bad mouth the president before you. It just shows a lack of class and respect in my opinion.

And didn't the Republicans say they were going to fight this but the second biggest group of earmarks is going to a Republican?

But, alas, Obama cannot be defended. He has gone populism haywire - one of his own economic advisors was a proponent of every tax alternative in that Economist article (did I pot it?) and she has become deathly silent.

So, we still have 12 months before we can start blaming Obama. We need to wait for him to sign off on this and for it to go into effect. The new President always get to blame the previous one for 12 months.
