Should I get Mysterio?

Postby isamu » Thu Jan 29, 2009 2:05 am

I've never heard it but I've owned and loved Candleland for years and I'm currently listening to it. What an incredibly brilliant album this is. Is Mysterio similar?

Also, how long after Candleland did it come out?

No, just download Heavens Gate, and you've cracked it.

Some of the songs on Mysterio are okay. I particularly like Honeydrip. And Lover Lover Lover is a crowd favorite. But the real reason to own it is for the voice. It's the last time it was really, really good. No croaking, no honking and full range. The album was released in 1992.

A remastered version was released a few years ago. It was a double pack with Candleland. I think the price was reasonable. Maybe you can pick it up that way.

I'm in the minority but I like Mysterio better than Candleland overall. Candleland sounded dated when it came out with all the synth stuff.

I'm in the same boat. And for the same reason. And, as ITM said before - it was the last time you heard his full vocal range on record.

It's worth purchasing. Lover, Lover, Lover, and Damnation make it worth the asking price. Plus Mac's voice does sound great.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Isn't he wearing a white denim jacket on the cover? He wears a dodgy sleeveless cardie in one of the videos.

I thought it was some god awful puffy turtle neck on the cover. Denim jacket on the back or insert?

The beginning of his layered look.

He wore a white denim jacket on the cover of "Unravelled," the compilation cd.

Amazing how popular the term "honey" was in the second half of the 80s.

Thanks guys :)

Man, if it's better than Candleland then Im in for a treat, as I adore Candleland :D

Last album he displayed his full vocal range? That's great. His "new" coarse voice is the reason I can't get into the newer Bunnymen stuff. Too bad he'll never sound like his youth again :(

Has he ever talked about his voice and how messed up it is? Do you think having vocal corrective surgery would help bring back his vocal chords and range?

 if i were a singer, i sure as hell wouldn't let someone near my throat with a knife! (unless i had a life threatening reason, like throat cancer or some weird thing like that) what is vocal corrective surgery? hey doc, make me sound like sinatra?

oh, and......as if Mac would ever say his voice was "messed up"!
