early 70's English Prog rock

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Keith Emerson writes movingly of friends recently lost, Mitch Mitchell and Pink Floyd’s Roger Wright.

It's Richard Wright. Or Rick if you prefer. Roger (Waters) is still with us. I assume that is a typo by the author of the article and not a typo by Keith Emerson!

I was never a fan of ELP myself. But I do dig some Yes.

I don't care about more focused. How's about less repetitive?

And no more smiley icons Frank. They just don't work for you.

Can we give ELO official status so I can say I listen to progressive?
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I'm hoping Marillion get a mention (no really, I am)
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Marbles is actually one of my favourite albums - mock me if you dare.

I hated them in the 80's because I was an NME reading musical puritan programmed to hate anything that resembled proper musicianship. It wasnt till I got older and mellowed that a friend lent me a copy of Script For A Jesters Tear and I thought "bloody hell - thats really good" and then bought all the Fish era stuff. I love it now!

I havent heard the post Fish albums (like Marbles) but my mate reckons they are excellent.

nme still a bit like that - but only a bit. Now they pad it (and the web site) with stuff such as:

http://www.nme.com/photos/638/the-20-ho ... -com-users

And girls aloud make the list several times. not that I'm saying I wouldn't, you know, butin past times their musical style/ability/affinity with the general public (toilet attendants excepted) would probably bar them from such lists. Or maybe I'm wrong. Has been known. Last I remember of Fish is when he played a washed up rock star turned producer in 'a young persons guide to being a rock star'. Though I'm not sure about that title now. Good series though.

Conversely I hated the Fish era Marillion - all that "Lavender's Blue Silly Billy" bollocks made me want to cut off my ears and Kayleigh still makes me want to puke.
You should get hold of the double cd version of Marbles - it's fantastic.

Its funny...most peoples opinions of Marillion (mine included for a while) are based purely on those two songs. Yet they dont represent the Marillion sound and were obviously an attempt to appease the record companies desire for a "hit single". Everything else on Misplaced Childhood is great, I always skip those two.

My prog obsession has involved me buying everything by Porcupine Tree that I can get my hands on - which has cleaned me out. Marbles is on my "to buy at some indeterminable date in the future" list.
