What will you cut back on?

Tired of discussing the Bunnymen and all the bands that have been influenced by them? This is the place for you.

What will you cut back on?

Postby withahip » Fri Dec 05, 2008 6:14 pm

We are going to lose jobs and/or hours here in this country and yours like never before in our lifetime - so

What will you cut back on?

Cable tv - will go - internet going back to dial up if that
texting and pics will go
snackfoods and eating out will go - Ramen without the flavor packet - too much sodium
more utilities off
shopping at TJ Maxx sometimes and then Salvation Army mostly

get a second job, if I can find one - and don't lose the first one

carpooling and no driving when I don't need to
cheaper versions of everything and only the necessities will be everything

going to Goodwill to get my stuff back
No new musical gear.

Living like a Freshmen in college again, I guess. Exept for the musical gear student loans bought.

The sadly funny thing is I realize we never have had it as bad as it is going to get so I can't fathom what I will have to cut back on.

I haven't cut back on anything myself. Not because I'm rich or anything. More cause I'm REALLY bad with money, planning ahead, being responsible, etc. The only thing that was hurting me was the gas since I drive about 70 miles every day. Now that gas is about $1.70 I'm doing alright.

Plus I don't worry about the economy, 401k's, stocks and stuff. What's the point? Maybe I should be worried but I just can't be bothered.

Sorry to hear you're stressing hip.

Nimber of graduates . . .

Have degree - and pink slip
The number of college grads seeking work is at an all time high, which means more bad news for the broader economy.

I don't think I said anything about my buying on credit, sucker. If I don't have the money for something, I don't buy it. And it's not been months in coming, it's been years. It sounds like you're personally suffering more than I am, and I'm sorry for that. I would go off on my "I blame the baby boom" tirade, but I'm just too tired to bother (worked a 12 hour day, myself).

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama issued a sober warning on Friday that the worst was yet to come for the U.S. economy after dismal job loss figures and renewed pleas for help by foundering automakers.

While government data showed the United States lost more than half a million jobs in November -- the biggest monthly loss in 34 years -- President George W. Bush was not quite as gloomy, saying he saw some encouraging signs.

But Obama -- who won the November 4 election against Republican rival John McCain in part because of the worsening economic picture -- was less enthusiastic, noting that the economy had already lost 2 million jobs during the year-old recession.

When times get tough I can always turn to the world's oldest profession for income.
I'll have a price list up soon.

Is it too soon to call this the Obama recession?

How do you think us Brits feel? We had a really bad recession in the 80's (i.e only 20 years ago) where unemployment reached 3 million and whole communities were decimated - some never recovered and some (like Liverpool) have only just recovered. I can remember walking down Church St (main shopping street in Liverpool) in the mid 80's and there were loads of shops boarded up - it was miserable. Manchester was the same (until the IRA blew it up) as were the likes of Leeds, Sheffield etc.

My Dad lost his job in 84 and really struggled to find work, it took him ages (by which time I had left home and was living in London).

I thought I'd left all that behind but this recession is more worrying as its a global recession - US, Japan, Europe even bloody Dubai is suffering a turndown.

Global capitalism may have been the party and now the effects of the hangover are setting in.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Am in the really weird position that the recession is actually good for my job, which is something I don't like...... Luckily i don't get paid any extra for the extra workload

As folks on here know I work as a lawyer with a Housing Charity, so as more and more can't afford to pay their mortgages and rent they are turning to us for help and advice. So I see a busy period for me over the next 18 months.........
