President-Elect Obama

Postby Frank The Bunny » Wed Nov 05, 2008 12:47 am

I don't know if any of the rest of you live in a city of any size, but there's actually cheering in the streets here. I'm sitting in my apartment, and it sounds like New Year's out on the street.

I appreciated Senator McCain's concession speech and President-Elect Obama's acceptance speech. I did notice a couple points of strong contrast. When McCain mentioned Obama, his crowd booed. When Obama mentioned McCain, his crowd cheered. Also, McCain told his supporters the loss was his alone. Obama told his supporters the victory was theirs.

Anyhow, I'm excited to see how the cabinet shapes up. President-Elect Obama's people say they're looking at three things - bipartisanship, diversity & youth (no washington/white house retreads).

This headline says it all, though:

Congratulations to my new President and to all of his supporters! Victory is sweet, isn't it?

It's almost like a minor miracle every time we elect a new President; every one votes, and then, the next morning, (barring technical problems) the decision is made.

Our first African American President, and one name Barack Hussein Obama to boot. Do we not live in an amazing country or what?

Here's to an amazingly prosperous and successful 8 years for the USA and for President Obama!

Graciousness comes much easier to those infused with the glow of victory. One finds it very easy to be magnanimous. Do not begrudge the winners their cheers or the losers their boos. Those people put everything they have into these things and it means everything to them.

Oh, I wasn't begrudging anyone anything. Seriously, It was just an observation in contrast.

Here's the scene on the streets last night, a block away from my home:

Is it too soon to start comparing people to Hitler? What is the etiquette on that, anyway?

Sure... fire away.

By the way, is it any coincidence that the day after we elect our first African-American president, McDonalds relaunched the McRib?

Anybody else have pix or video from the celebrations in their hometowns?

If anything happens to the man, The US will look like Bosnia.

Also, people are in for a bit of a let down a year from now when the US does not become a Utopia. Remember, Pelosi is still influential.

You mean I gotta pay for my gas and make my mortgage payments? Whata gyp.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown called Tuesday's poll historic and said he and Mr Obama "share many values." However, he warned British minorities that although they may enjoy this, "they better not get uppity."

Stocks fall as investors ponder Obama presidency

By SARA LEPRO – 3 hours ago

NEW YORK (AP) — A case of post-election nerves sent stocks plunging Wednesday as investors, again anxious about a recession, began questioning what impact a Barack Obama presidency will have on business and the overall economy. The Dow Jones industrials dropped more than 400 points and the major indexes all fell more than 4 percent.

Stocks fell initially as investors cashed in gains after a six-day run that lifted the Standard & Poor's 500 index more than 18 percent. But the selling picked up momentum as the market worried anew about the weakness of the economy and pondered what an Obama administration might do.

Obama will inherit an enormous budget deficit when he is sworn in Jan. 20. Analysts said that the market is already growing anxious about whom Obama selects as the next Treasury Secretary, as well as whom he picks for other Cabinet positions.

"A lot of the policy going forward is going to have an effect on the various sectors of the market," said Joe Keetle, senior wealth manager for Dawson Wealth Management.

Obama's victory means that industries such as oil and gas producers, utilities and pharmaceuticals may face greater regulation and even taxes, while labor unions and automakers are expected to benefit.

In addition, banks, insurance companies, hedge funds and the rest of the financial sector will almost certainly face attempts at a regulatory overhaul by the Democratic Congress next year.

Gordon Brown is from a British minority - he's Scottish.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.
