They are, but rather than purchase at import price, I suggest purchasing from amazon.co.uk subtract VAT and add airmail to the states - still come out ahead - way ahead.

Amazon never actually had it. I ended up ordering it from hmv-uk. The finaly price wasn't much more than a regular cd stateside with shipping. And yes, it was cheaper ordering it from the UK than getting it amazon.com

Just in time for the gig, there is a new feature on Google that may help some of you visitors navigate our bus, rail and subway lines.
Go to this link and you can figure out a route from destination to destination. I think you can access this from iphones and blackberrys and I guess any new fangled cell phone thingys you guys might have.

Moondance, Do you recommend sticking with taxis or are the subways okay to use? I've never been a bus person.

Also, Google online (via their maps feature) can give you a "street view" of the route. It's really neat.

Also, Hopstop.com is great for giving exact directions and estimated time/distance.

And Google maps on the smartphones has a GPS (this is where you are now) feature. Truly neat-o.

ITM: the subways are ok to use. They're dirty but the trains come often. Not too much crime, but lots of grime!
I usually either take a subway or walk. Where are you coming from? Cabs are ok but you pay more for them. In the subway stations there are Metrocard dispensers. I think a ride is about $2 now.

Thanks for the info. I prefer to walk too, but at times the distances can be too great. On Wednesday (Oct 1), I'll be coming from East Midtown (53rd St.). I was really wondering about the next day when I go sightseeing in the Downtown area.

If you're staying in a hotel, you can probably pick up subway maps and sightseeing guides there. It's great to just walk too. It's an easy city to walk around in and you can see so many things that you might not even be aware of existing in the city. The architecture alone is amazing, even on side streets. I think New York is a very safe city for walking and the subways are too. Just stay well back from the lines on the platforms just in case. There are quite a few nutters around.
