The public at large is supportive of gun ownership, and the left has largely abandoned any appearance of feeling otherwise where national elections are concerned. Also, Palin has never fought to have creationism taught in Alaska public schools, and has said whe would not do so.

Yeah. I didn't read the Wikipedia entry on her correctly. Must've been the sugar buzz from all those Twinkies I had this morning.

"While running for Governor of Alaska, Palin supported the open debate of creationism alongside evolution in schools; however, she noted that "creationism doesn't have to be part of the curriculum" and that she would not use "religion as a litmus test, or anybody's personal opinion on evolution or creationism" as criteria for selection to the school board."

Speaking of which, did anybody ever wind up taking the gun out of Charlton Heston's cold, dead hands?

Oh, and I will say one thing about McCain's move... and his timing.

Nobody's talking about Obama's acceptance speech today: http://forum.villiersterrace.com/viewto ... 6791#16791

I like the fact that my kids are oblivious to the fact that we will either have a black man as prez or a woman as veep and there's nothing remarkable about that to them.

Now, if McCain thinks he is going to get former Hillary supporters because he picked a running mate with a vagina but has a solid conservative record, he's a fool. Or the people voting for Hillary were only voting for her because she had a vagina. Most Hillary supporters were women but solidly liberal.

Creationism is a religious belief pure and simple. I have no problem with them teaching a comparative religion class in public schools that explore the origin of life as well as other religious beliefs in major religious cultures but creationism should not be taught in a science class, period. It has no basis in science whatsoever. Yes evolution is a theory but it's a SCIENTIFIC theory which is different than just egghead guesswork. It is supported by mountains of scientific evidence and observation.

Well, we have a military that's less able to act swiftly in response to crises in other parts of the world. Is that a "win"? Saddam's dead (along with millions of other Iraqis and thousands of Americans). Is that a "win"?

Agreed about creationism, it has no place in public schools.

I think the disgruntled Hillary McCain voter is a real phenomenon, but I doubt if Palin will capitalize on that a great deal further. Like I said, people don't seem to care about Veeps that much.

Yes, either a black man or a woman in the White House next year.
