Is Obama the next US president?

On the downside, he was a lunatic and would have been a terrible president.

I have no problem with that.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

 Isn't that the normal qualification for getting elected?

It would be nice to see McCain disavow Bush. I was loving Obama but he has moved to the right on almost every issue. I can't believe he just offered that oil drilling cop out. It would be a waste. I like McCain's military experience and his finance reform.

I also like McCain in this. . .

I almost bought into Obama's change bullshit but I see now he is the same as all the rest. Anyone who is truly reform minded ruffles so many feathers they'll never get elected.

Agreed.

I would've voted for Hillary - not for her strengths, but because she'd have brought in Bill's advisors, who might just be able to help turn the economy back around, like they did after W's dad & Darth Reagan fucked it up

Yeah, Reagan really put the brakes on that Carter juggernaut we had going.

Anti-Reagan is not Pro-Carter.

However, Carter tried to control government spending - the National Debt increased about 9% per year during his presidency, and his policies got inflation under control.

Under Reagan, the National Debt went from under $1 Trillion to $2.6 Trillion.
This was not to feed the poor or take care of the mentally ill (he cut federal spending for social programs and put the mentally ill out on the streets), or even to fund a war.
REAGAN CUT TAXES ON THE RICH BY 25% !!!

Bush Sr. slowed down what he called Reagan's "voodoo economics" - with the National Debt increasing by only 11.8% per year of his presidency.

Clinton fixed the budget problem - in hs first two years, (with a Democrat-controlled Congress) he set the roadmap for the nation's most prosperous times ever. Even with a hostile Republican Congress for the remaining 6 years, the Clinton Administration was able to balance the Federal Budget, and drive down the growth of our National Debt - which grew only 0.32% during his last year in office.

When W took office, there was a $128 Billion budget surplus. Because of his Reaganesque tax cuts for the rich and his quest for control of the Middle East Oil Reserves, Dubyah is going to leave the next President a $490 Billion deficit. I just checked the National Debt Clock. We're at $9,571,543,401,664.34

Republicans kick ass!

If you say Reagan "fucked up" the economy, it is. Only a kool-aid drinker of the highest order would gloss over the horrible Carter economy merely because he was in the correct party. Whatever shred of credibility you had is lost.

I know this is another question I'll regret, but what does this mean, he "fixed the budget problem"?

It is because of Carter that as a small child I refused to show my gums when I smiled.

The name Carter brings up bad memories.... Carter...Gary Carter...'86 Mets....rooting for the Sox out of confusion..... regretting it and feeling dirty for years after.

My answer was after the hyphen...not just the first couple words after it

Reagan fucked up the economy, just as Dubyah has.
It doesn't matter who Reagan came after. HE FUCKED UP.
He gave tax breaks to the rich and huge corporations.
The money didn't "trickle down"
His tax cuts took food out of the mouths of children and lined the pockets of the wealthy.

During both Reagan and Dubyah, the rich have gotten richer, the poor have gotten poorer and the middle class has eroded.
