The Black Kids

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Didn't Robert Smith pop songs like this once upon a time?

I've popped balloons but never a song.
And you know that I'll pick up
Every time you call
Just to thank you one more time

I have to admit that I really enjoyed that sugarpop.

It also intrigues me that they are from Jacksonville, Florida. I mean ...Florida? AND Jacksonville? That's insane. No good bands come from there.

Lynyrd Skynyrd came from Jacksonville, FL. Super band before the plane crash. I got to see them at My Father's Place in Roslyn, NY way back when.

Lynard Skynard mentioned in a thread titled "The Black Kids." Must be some kind of irony there.

Yeah boy! Doesn't "Sweet Home Alabama" talk shit to Neil Young for his critique of the black man's treatment in the American south?

Neil Young in "Southern Man":

Southern man
better keep your head
Don't forget
what your good book said
Southern change
gonna come at last
Now your crosses
are burning fast
Southern man

I saw cotton
and I saw black
Tall white mansions
and little shacks.
Southern man
when will you
pay them back?
I heard screamin'
and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

Lynard Skynard in Sweet Home Alabama:

Well I heard mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

Neil didn't put Alabama down or the South, just all the racists who live there.

Actually - I think the song was really saying "Who are you to say anything maaaannn" to Neil Young.

The best part - if I'm not mistaken - Skynard guys weren't even from Alabama. They were from Florida. The tune, I've heard, is more about recording in Alabama.

But it is Skynerds own fault - if they didn't mean it in a Mississippi Burning way - for playing in front of a Confederate Flag so many times.

Funny how threads spin - kind of random right.
