The great big U2 thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Maybe its a tax dodge? Not impressed. They need a producer who can tell Bonio to shut the fuck up now and again. After blathering on about this and that for a while (and theres lots of being about this and that) and you're moving towards the middle eight or the guitar solo, they will start and within 3 nanosecods he's wailing wo-oh-oh-oh-wo-oh-oh-oh over the top. All a bit kodaline, easy to do since kodaline sound like they've learnt all they know about making soaring stadium rock from the U2 school of soaring stadium rock. Photos are good - all mean and moody black and white, leather jackets and shades, but of four posh boys who want to look like a rock band (without the heroin or not getting washed for five days, obviously). And the fake punk sleeve - not very convincing when you're the 'biggest band inthe world'. And when a song is called 'the miracle of joey ramone', or has the subtitle 'for joe strummer' well what's the point

that's a good joke actually but it doesn't download to any device unless you tell it to.

I listened to it, it has a few good songs. Volcano stands out, Cedarwood Road, Raised By Wolves. I guess I am just pissing in the wind here though...

its your site, you can piss all you want! I'll give it a couple more listens I guess though seem to have less and less patience with stuff that doesn't grab me by the nuts these days - which is odd because some of my favourite albums are/were slow burners.

I quite like it, it's a fairly good album. My faves are Raised by Wolves and Volcano. And it's cool that Lykke Li is on the album.

It's one thing to stream it to fans for a bit but this seems like a game changer to have Apple just distribute a big name bands album for free. When I logged into my iTunes it just said "purchased". I didn't have to do anything to get it. At that point I could stream it from iCloud or download the tracks. It doesn't seem like they can count every iTunes account holder as a true purchaser of the album. Maybe they only count the downloads?

Apparently Apple paid U2 100 m USD to release the album for free.

I was going to listen to it in the car on the way home from work but I put Status Quo on instead.
