The great big U2 thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

I want to see them live, can't wait for their new album to be out so they can go on a tour. Hopefully they'll play lots of old stuff, I don't really like the new apart from a few songs.

this always gets me...

Apparently the new album won't be out til 2015, there was an article over on U2.com's forum, and there will be live shows in the summer of 2015. Can't wait to be honest, even if the new album is cr*p.

I wonder how much Apple paid them and I wonder how that will work with charting? It's one thing to stream it to fans for a bit but this seems like a game changer to have Apple just distribute a big name bands album for free. When I logged into my iTunes it just said "purchased". I didn't have to do anything to get it. At that point I could stream it from iCloud or download the tracks. It doesn't seem like they can count every iTunes account holder as a true purchaser of the album. Maybe they only count the downloads?

Maybe it's so shit even Bonio hasn't got the brass neck to charge actual money for it?

I haven't listened to all of it yet but all hate of U2 aside, album sales for all have been dropping for years since the rise of free streaming services, it seems like they must have had a decent payout by Apple and will make their real money doing a massive tour. Radiohead released In Rainbows for free but that was a self release. U2 is still on Island and every album since the Joshua Tree hit number 1 in the US and UK so it's not like they hit a slump with fans. I guess Island will release a physical copy in October.

Just downloaded it but because I dont get apple and their oh so inuitive ways of doing stuff it would have been quicker to get the boat over to dublin and get a cd from bonio himself.
