speaking of Leonard Cohen

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

i had other bunnymen fans tell me they didn't *get* him either. i sent some of them tapes that i made, and now most of them LOVE him! i dunno. i think he's just like the bunnymen - you either get him, or you don't.

With Dylan at least you could identify him with a generation and put him in context to appreciate what he did. The Scorcese docu on Dylan really changed my mind about Dylan when I didn't "get" him either. So now I feel like I am missing out on something .

What might make me "get" Cohen?

Listen to Rita Coolidge's cover of "Bird On A Wire" It might make you appreciate him a little.

I'd take him over Bob Dylan.

what i find amazing is that anyone who's anyone in the music biz seems to hold him in the highest regards, yet, no one knows who he is! (generally speaking) the average person doesn't have a clue who he is.

yeah ...i was going to say that.......

but that's been covered a zillion times over. all the new bands mention them as heroes, but no one seems to take notice of them in general! shame really! but i think Cohen is regarded on a much higher level, throughout the entire business, not just the indie rock end of the spectrum. it's much wider. even Willie Nelson has covered him on a tribute cd! but there's also the land of poets and novelists, too.

but yeah, as i was typing that, i was thinking the same thing about the bunnymen!

My exposure to Leonard Cohen was brief and ill-fated. A friend of mine made me listen the album I'm Your Man whilst on a flight out to San Jose. After having listened to him rave endlessly about it, the actual experience was quite a letdown. Then he tried to convince me that the lyrics were so great that I must really like it. It just seemed so very BORING.
"He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail, but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits."

Mac covering "Lover, Lover, Lover" was the high point of Cohen's career.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
