There's a lot of crap on that list. The Strokes? Kanye West? Suede? WTF?

I'd say they forgot

JAMC - Psychocandy
Bunnymen - Crocodiles
The Damned - Damned, Damned, Damned
Elvis Presley - Self Titled
The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Love and Rockets - Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven
The Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic
Dinosaur Jr - You're Living All Over Me
Front 242 - Geography
New York Dolls - Self Titled
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
Weezer - Blue Album
X-Ray Spex - Germ Free Adolescents

That's just off the top of my head.

I could throw a dart at any of your music collections and hit a better debut album than some of that crap on the list.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Also the self-titled debut albums from the Clash and the Psychedelic Furs. And if you an count a debut EP, "Spiral Scratch" by Buzzcocks.

well its a but of a surprise there so many old ones if you ask me - no libertines/babysmbles for a start, which you'd expect from the nme.

I was surprised by how much good stuff there is. I like the Xx but their debut has not caused the stir of a lot of those listed.

And even if you aren't into Suede, that first release was a big deal.

I am going by the music plus the amount of excitement the music caused. I am assuming that would be NME's criteria.

I much prefer 'People's Friend' these days.

I wonder how they came up with this list? Was is one sweaty guy sitting at his computer, or was it something put together with input from multiple people working there? If so, that would explain some of the incongruity in the selection (I mean, come one, Slim Shady???)

I was shocked to see that "Crocodiles" wasn't on the list either--it definitely should have been!

Lists sell magazines. People love lists.

And yes, I agree - Croc should've been on there.
