I think Old Grey Whistle Test was strickly a UK show. We had Soul Train and Don Kirschners Rock Concert and Midnight Special (oh, and American Bandstand-eek).
I remember a very early performance of Billy Joel on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He played Piano Man and it was new so that was along time ago.

See, British music TV kicks American music TV's ass! I recognized the drummer! I don't remember reading about him doing that before. Good stuff CD. I'll bet ya got alot more where that came from too.
