MGMT...2nd album blues???

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Been discussing this on another board - they made it clear they did not want to do first album over and went and got Sonic Boom to produce.

You think it will get better with a few listens?

Well the trademark Spaceman 3 sound isnt in it at all.More like shambling UK indie bands from 1985 playing the Nuggets compilations.Struggling to listen in one go tbh but I'll persevere-it cost me £10!

That is what I was hearing in the videos. Nothing grabbed me. None of the catchy repetition of Spacemen 3. Seems like the boys wanted to prove they do more than program midi tracks.

Spending the money on the cd makes me expect so much from a cd that I will end up just being let down. Unless, like the new BRMC, they sell it for half the price of what a cd usually goes for.

I sort of like it, but there's no "Electric Feel". "Kids" is my fave song of theirs and is a local radio hit here. "Flash delirium" is rather odd, but kinda cool. I think I like "I found a whistle."

The new one is sort of surfy/psychedelic/80s/60s. Odd, but kind of cool.

They were shit anyway, I hate their first album.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

I applaud MGMT for not sticking to the same formula. It was also a smart move since there was no way they could match such a critically successful debut. They say for them it's not about being famous and selling lots of records (sound familiar?). Now having said that, the experimental second album thing is a bit contrived...

But what formula is it?Ripping off 80's Uk indie bands on Creation Records? It's not a great pysch album it a collection of noodlings that dont go anywhere. If you want better pysch you can find it from 1960's onwards.I just dont get this 'lets do something differnt and therefore we are so cool' attitude to be admired. You can only be that self-indulgent when you've sold 1m records as they did.It doesnt sound new it sounds forced and derivative and shows how they fluked it with Pretend.
