Five Years

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

My "A Day In The Life"

Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying
I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies
I saw boys, toys electric irons and T.V.'s
My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there
And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

A girl my age went off her head, hit some tiny children
If the black hadn't a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them
A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer threw up at the sight of that

I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour, drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine, don't think
you knew you were in this song
And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk

We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, what a surprise
Five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
Five years
Five years
Five years
Five years

This is such a great song and Bowie is so talented. This morning on Sirius Deep Tracks they played TVC15, Boys Keep Swinging and Friday On My Mind with some Bowie interview segments.

Bowie is 63 today. Can you believe that??? His voice still sounds great too.

Yay!!! Thanks, Hip.

We've been well overdue a Bowie thread.

Is Bowie still a smoker? Seeing how The Divster continually harps on about Mac's smoking and its effect on his voice.

Current favourite Bowie album? I've always been a Ziggy man myself.

I think he was reported to have quit after he had those heart problems a few years ago.

Was his medical advisor classically trained?

I always go back to Space oddity, Station to Station and the Man Who Sold The World with hopeless regularity.
Bowie at the Beeb is great for quick fixes.

I still listen to all the stuff up to (and including) Scary Monsters but nothing much thereafter, except the Absolute Beginners video for Patsy Kensit of course.

Earthling, Hours and Heathen all have their high points.

I like Let's Dance for a bit of eighties sentimentality, though I'd agree most of his best stuff came before Scary Monsters.

I'll agree to that although some of that 80's stuff is my least favorite Bowie stuff. The 80's also produced that awful Jagger/Bowie version of Dancing In The Streets.

Outside isnt bad either.

I'm an Eno trilogy fan - Low, "Heroes", Lodger
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Here's an interview with a medical professional on how smoking affects the voice.
