Five Years

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

So he gets a little Jesus on the side--he was refering to how difficult it is to quit and that one needs the support of friends. If he chooses to comfort his soul that way, that doesn't refute the facts of the vocal problems smoking causes. I'm sure I can find another person who doesn't quote the Bible and states the same facts.

Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying
I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies
I saw boys, toys electric irons and T.V.'s
My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there
And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

A girl my age went off her head, hit some tiny children
If the black hadn't a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them
A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer threw up at the sight of that

I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour, drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine, don't think
you knew you were in this song
And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk

We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, what a surprise
Five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes

It is interesting to speculate. Could Mac giving up smoking or having vocal surgery reverse the appalling damage to his once magnificent voice, bearing in mind that rumours* abound that has administered other substances liable to damage the nasal areas-is this reversible surgically?

*please note that if anyone sues me for libel using British pseudo-law legal predators, they and their lawyers will be terminated with extreme prejudice. It's cheaper, and the penalties for murder are far lighter than those for libel in the United Kingdom.
I recently had good cause to sue for libel. I could have ruined two people and become very rich. But as a libertarian extremist, I believe in absolute freedom of speech, so I did not.

I was crushed as a kid when I first learned of Bowie's "Laughing Gnome."

Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

I didn't read it - what does 'demagogue' mean?
Where you paraphrasing - those words are pompous drivel, and should be more down to earth, in my humble opinion. These are the words of a typical self-obsessed music journalist.

Apologies, but when did you eat the thesaurus, scouser.

If you don't have an expletive in your comments, i work at macdonalds.

I ate a Thesaurus whilst getting an education, something that its painfully obvious you somehow managed to miss. Your final line is a case in point. It sounds like someone who has English as their second language. I bet your always mixing up the orders at the Drive Thru - "I asked for Diet Coke dumbo".

Not as good as Burger King.

I prefer Burger King too.

I won't rise to your condescending and supercilious bait.

While I'm on it, why do bunnymen fans vicariously think Liverpool is a shrine and support LFC?

Liverpool's pretty much like any other city IMO.

Allow me to field that one: those people are losers.

That other substance does destroy your nasal passages. I'm not sure how an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat Doc) deals with that. I don't know what the actual damage is to Mac's voice. However, giving up smoking, eating well and resting the voice can do alot. If he is having issues with acid reflux, that's one more mess in the mix. Smoking and acid reflux also go together. Vocal surgery can be iffy because they have to pierce through the mucousal lining. This is what I've been told when I had vocal issues. Sorry if it's boring and I really don't mean to be pretentious. I'm just deeply saddened by something that was totally avoidable.

I wrote a really good review for a band and then went to see them a second time and I could really notice where this guy was going off or having to switch down because he is having vocal problems. Yes, he smokes too. I wanted to change the review. Trumpet also went off noticeably 3 times. So much for never missing a note...
