John Lydon on PiL

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Without Levene and Wobble is it really PIL? Sounds like his solo album was such a dud that he is forced to use the PIL name to get anyone to go to his shows.

With mp3s allowing the stealing of music on a grand scale and investment portfolios down so much, Lydon would seem to be another who has to get back to work touring to pay the bills.

The skinny guy on the right is Lu. He was in the Damned and is going to come back in the revamped PIL. The guys on the left is John McGeoch. He was in Magazine and Souxie before PIL. He died in 2004. He will missed in the new line up.

Did Jake Brockman have a vote on what PIL did?
"He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail, but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits."

PiL's sonic sorcery can't work without Levene and Wobble

I saw PIL during their Happpy? tour. No one was. Especially being on the same bill as The Sugarcubes, PIL seemed like any other band.

Were you a PiL fan?

Ted: Actually before the audition I had liked 'This is not a love song' and 'Rise' and had a copy of the Generic album (some of Vai's best playing) but wasn't mad on PiL, so when I was first told who the Ad was for, I wasn't that thrilled! Imagine. Quickly grew to really enjoy playing the stuff live though.

Were you brought in as a session player or as part of the group?

Ted: I was brought in to session as the previous guy Lu had left to go round Turkey by bus, I think! The structure of the band was set so I think they didn't want another finger in the pie, as it were.

The New Order - Sugercubes - PiL tour was July 1989. I saw them back to back, in Mansfield, MA and in Bristol, CT. The show was fabulous except when Johnny Lydon made the exact same joke/sarcastic remark at the exact same place in each show.

After seeing New Order -and EATB the year before, I thought the PIL tour was a total elt down. seeing two guitarists doing cliche hair metal riffs throughout each song destroyed what made PIL unique. I felt like I was watching Poison with Lydon as the front man.

PIL was cool, but Lydon was, is, and always will be a hack and a dickhead.
