James Yorkston? Congratulations L.F.- Anyone who has discovered the "Future Folk" Fence records acts is a person of good taste. Not only is J.Y. the superior version of Leonard Cohen but when playing on the culture show with Hot Chip, King Creosote and Rozi Plain (singing Tortoise regrets Hare) introduced me to a new universe of talent that more than compensates for the slow decline of my 80's icons (Bunnymen, chameleons, cope) and as for KC, he is the new John Lennon (except better) Rachel Dadd is a genius version of Joni Mitchell and as for Rozi Plain with the fantastic drummer (Sam) and guitarist (Francois) now known as Premier words fail me-I saw them in Winchester and the vibe must have been like the first time the Bunnymen played Eric's! I saw Rozi and her band in Bristol and they were sweet/great there, but now they have hardened up into something ferociously powerful. I hate crusty traditional folk but this is a completely different thing. P.S.
don't check out you-tube/myspace expecting to find her best songs, not being daft she makes sure the best material has to be bought. Go to one of the live shows, seize the moment, because as we all know, even the greatest bands don't last forever. I missed seeing Queen live just as they were starting out in a small venue in Bournemouth, far worse I missed seeing the Chameleons on the reunion tour (see the
marvelous Ascension DVD to see what I missed) and so I have vowed never to miss an opportunity to worship at the feet of living gods/goddesses ever again.
Fiery Furnaces? Never heard of them. Sounds an interesting name. I'll check them out.
