R.I.P. Les Paul

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Guitar legend Les Paul dies at age 94
(AP) – 16 minutes ago

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll and multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the "tracks" in the finished recording.

If it weren't for Les Paul, there would be no solid-body electric guitar, no multi-track recording. So, fuck you. It's not about his music, it's about his contributions to music, dickwad.

In other words, "too soon".

Glenn Danzig is on record saying he only plays Les Paul guitars.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Oh, relax you PC putz. I bet Les would be one of the first ones to laugh at that one. You know Les about him than me and you are getting all righteous.

Watch the video.

I'll play a song for him tonight on my Les Paul. Will that things better?

Just got this story from a great local sound guy I know. I love this.

In 1969 I played electric bass in our high school jazz ensemble. I was 14 and had been playing for only two years. We played for a local charity event. When we finished, Les Paul walked up on stage, pointed to me, the drummer, and the piano player and said, "Will you guys stay and play with me? I need a backup band." I don't know how I made it through the next 60 minutes because I was shaking so hard I could hardly hold the instrument. After we finished he took us aside and spent an hour or so talking about music, his philosophies, and his experiences. Others wanted his time, but he made them wait. It was the day that defined the direction my life would take.
