The Damned

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

The Damned

I truly love this band! Check this clip out from last year:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B01RxhhSvCs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B01RxhhSvCs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This is what I don't understand about the Bunnymen, The Damned do not have the original members in the lineup anymore, are the same age as the Bunnymen (actually Capt and Vanian are both older than Mac), but they tear it up live. Bunnymen, please take note!

The Damned live are great. What I love about them is they make do with what they got. Other than Vanian's amazing voice I wouldn't say they cornered their fair share of musical talent but they keep plugging away and they hit as often as they miss. But live, always on the mark.

The Dammed at Glasgow Apollo 1979 is a strong contender for my top 10 gig list. I'm too lazy to actually compile the whole list though.

First a Velvets compilation, now this?

It's okay, there was a time when I bought every Damned CD available. I have like 12 of each song now.

One thing that is RAD is Vanian's side project David Vanian and the Phantom Chords. I like it better than all but two Damned albums. Gothic rockabilly would be a the best description. Weird, moody, beautiful stuff. It's long out of print so here you go guilt free.

Does anyone have the Naz Nomad they'd like to share? I'd appreciate it.

JJB in The Herald last week

"We'd been attacked by the bouncers at the Apollo one time, as we'd admonished them for being rough with people who'd come to the shows. I'd say it was funny at the time, but it wasn't - it was bloody scary."
