My kids, 7 and 9, can recognize Bunnymen and Beatles songs pretty quickly. We also take them to this big Beatles festival near where we live every year too. They know the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin as well.
My wife and I had them watch the Queen Live at Wembley show from '86 and I've also shown them an AC/DC show since they liked the Rock School movie with Jack Black and I wanted them to see the real deal.
They sometimes specifically request "Bittersweet Symphony" in the car when I have my iPod and once "Like A Rolling Stone" came on and they seemed to enjoy it so I gave them a lesson in Bob Dylan. My wife and I joke that kids need to know the "classics". As long as that's going on I can forgive them for the peer pressure of listening to Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.

That is a great version of Ashses to Ashes. Live - Bowie changes songs up - it is hit and miss - but woth it for the gems like this one.

My daughter is 3, and of all the bands I listen to she somehow latched onto the Banshees. Peekaboo has been on repeat many a day. My poor mother in law had to sit through a 1.5 hour trip listening to nothing but Peekaboo b/c that's what was requested haha. She also likes the Beatles, and went through a phase of watching Help everyday for about a week. She loves music in general, and the Jungle Book soundtrack is currently on heavy rotation. I am convinced this has to do with the fact that I was still gigging during the pregnancy, and my wife was coming to my shows up until the 7 month.

My son is only 10 months (as of yesterday) but will rock out and clap to about any music that's on.

So, yes........there is hope for the future!

When my daughter was about 5 one of her favourite songs was Seven Seas. Now she's 16 and it's Killing Moon (along with anything by The Killers and Kings of Leon).
Thankfully I never had to endure Hanah Montana or Jonas Brothers, although there was a (mercifully brief) Shakira phase there for a while.

My daughter did the same with me, but with The Killers. Driving around the UK in a hired car we had 2 CDs - The Kooks and The Killers. The Kooks drove me nuts (no pun intended), but The Killers won me over, especially after seeing them live at The Albert Hall.
