Depeche Mode

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Depeche Mode

I wish A Wilder would at least consider producing Depeche Mode.

I havet to say I was impressed (and happy for) David Gahan's contributions to "Playing the Angel" (even tough there were to other credited writers). Hear his new solo yet?

I love the way they transformed themselves from cheeky young popsters into something altogether darker and more subversive.

That's my 4yr old niece's favourite song

I've been listening to Playing the Angel in the car a lot recently. There are rumours of an imminent tour

New Gahan cd.

Strange. Recoil is on his top friends. No DM. No Martin.

He and Alan Wilder get on really well. Wilder said Gahan was nothing but gentleman during his departure from the band and I've read interviews where Gahan acknowledges Wilder's contributions to DM and wished ML Gore had done the same. It's pretty amazing the difference between Gore's initial demos and the finished product after Wilder was done with them. If you can't tell yet I totally sack ride for Wilder.

I can see why BF. Wilder hasn't really done anything without Gore and DM's music has a little less depth musically since Wilder left.

Gahan would have done well to co-write with Wilder. Did he? Know, I do not. The first Gahan cd had some brutally moronic lyrics. Making lyrics so stupid they hurt a song is actually difficult to do.

Yeah Wilder has been a little less busy musically than I would prefer but the last Recoil LP was amazing. He is such an amazing producer and can create great atmosphere without sacrificing songcraft. He and Gore were an amazing team and it's a shame Wilder felt he had to leave. It's no cooincidence it took like 10 producers, mixers, etc to replace Wilder on "Ultra".

I did notice some of the lyrics on Gahan's first CD were pretty bad but I was happy he branched out on his own and finally asserted himself in contributing material to DM. I've always liked Gahan and I think "Suffer Well" is the best track on "Playing the Angel"

I was just reading some reviews of the Devotional dvd on the imdb site and came across this gem:

"What I saw when I rented this was almost too much to bear. It wasn't that there was bad audio and it wasn't that the songs DM picked stunk. What put a damper on the whole thing was lead singer David Gahan. I don't think I've ever seen such arrogance onstage. I understand that the life of a rock star goes to most of their heads and they become mini-gods, but with Dave it was pathetic. He looked like he was on coke or something, constantly running about and sweating profusely. Then he started flagrantly shaking his rear end in front of the crowd."

Talk about not having a clue.

Doesn't "constantly running about and sweating profusely" kinda go hand in hand?

Or have I got it all wrong again?

I've just now gotten around to watching these videos. Great stuff! For me DM the quintessential DM album will always be Black Celebration

And no blackfrancis we don't want to see the Rammstein cover.

Dave Gahan is kind of a twad. I mean as far as interviews go.

I've started doing that lately with this song too.....It embarrasses the hell out of my daughter!

And I LOVE Gahan's Hourglass. Best album I've heard in years.....not a dud song on there!

A bit obvious and simplistic, but I like it anyway:
