Depeche Mode go bigger than normal

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Depeche Mode go bigger than normal

From their press conference earlier -

Major World Tour Begins May 2009, New Album Due April 2009
OCTOBER 6th, BERLIN: Depeche Mode (Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher) have today announced the European leg of their ‘Tour of the Universe 2009’. The band are currently in New York working on a new album, due April next year.

Depeche Mode’s eagerly-anticipated follow up to ‘Playing The Angel’ will be the 12th album of a glorious 28 year career in which they have sold over 75 million records. One of the world’s biggest and best live acts, ‘Tour of the Universe 2009’ will undoubtedly be the musical highlight of next year.

Kicking off in Israel on May 10th, this will be Depeche Mode’s first ever stadium tour, taking in 28 cities across 22 countries before finishing at Porto’s Superbock Super Rock Festival on July 11th.

Depeche Mode will play to over 1.3 million fans on this European leg of ‘Tour of the Universe 2009’. It’s their first since 2006’s ‘Playing the Angel’ tour, which smashed European sales records with 1.8 million tickets sold across 87 shows.

The last date of the ‘Playing The Angel’ tour – August 3rd 2006 – was to take place at Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park, but the band were forced to cancel due to the impending war. Tel Aviv’s Ramat Gan Stadium thus provides a fitting stage for Depeche Mode’s spectacular live return.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Nice news. Really wish Wilder could be gotten on board for the recording of the new one. the releases he was on seem to have more intricate and dynamic backing/accompaniments.

Scouser: I meant to ask you, do you have this CD? I know it's from the US but, you may have it over there...

CD: Sire/Reprise / 9 21735-2 (US)

"World in My Eyes" – 3:59
"World in My Eyes (Oil Tank Mix)" – 7:29
"Happiest Girl (The Pulsating Orbital Mix)" – 6:28
"Sea of Sin (Tonal Mix)" – 4:44
"World in My Eyes (Mode to Joy)" – 6:32
"Happiest Girl (Jack Mix)" – 4:58
"Sea of Sin (Sensoria)" – 6:07

A friend of mine sent it to me, I just have to say, this album OOZES sensuality/sex/etc. I have NEVER, EVER had such a sensual album in my possession as this. I can't believe on how these songs express it. You have to check it out, well, if you want to that is....

I have all of those mixes as seperates, yes...very, very good.

Here is a sneak preview of two tracks from the new album played over the PA before the press conference, the second in particular sounds like "classic" DM...

For me too. Just like The Cure, it's probably been close to 20 years, since
I've seen them last back in Philly. They did put on a hell of a show. Look
forward to seeing their tour locations here in the states.

I've seen them only twice- once in college in the early '90s and again in the late '90s. They are just incredible live! Hopefully they tour nearby!

You two are in for a treat because they really hit their touring stride with the PTA tour a few years back and I've got a funny feeling this will be even better...

...they are now distributed worldwide by EMI/Mute (as opposed to being licensed to a US label) so expect something extra special for the States!
