Paolo Hewits book on Weller

anyone read this? anyone think hewit can actually write? I always thought that he got all those jobs because he was weller's mate, and now that he's not part of the inner circle any more, he's written this I think that my theory may be true. For anyone who hasn't read this (and I expect there are a few) the premise is that weller once said 'why do these journos ask me all these stupid questions (ahem) when the answers are all there in the music'. And so Paolo has a chapter on a song and then discusses some aspect of weller's personality and/or life that the song reflects. But what you really get is some mention of the song, a possibly real or possibly tenuous connection, some bit that says what a great bloke he is followed by several paragraphs either going straight for the jugular or anecdotes that illustrate just what a bastard he is. It seems to have been written with serialisation in the Daily Star (UK tabloid cak) in mind rather than any in depth discourse on the man and his music.

What comes through is that he is always was and still is in awe of Mr Paul but obviously since their fall out doesn't like him very much. Apart from a few specific anecdotes we dont really get anything new about his personality (talented introverted bully boy) and nothing about the music - wow i thought, so when he writes songs about characters he's really writing about himself - yes paul weller IS liza radley, 'kinell paolo, hold the front page!!!. BUt mainly he cant write very well and its one of those books to pick up now and again, but mainly to put down (did you see what I did there?).
