Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

Postby Frank The Bunny » Sun Sep 28, 2008 9:32 pm

I found the upcoming Oasis album on a torrent site.
I'm giving it a first listen right now, but will reserve comment until a few of you have gotten the chance to hear it

Thanks man. I still haven't given up on Oasis. I'm down for anyone who talks that much shit.

First impressions

Soldier On - Boring
The Nature of Reality - Not bad for Lenny Kravitz
Ain't Got Nothin' - Mid tempo bore
To Be Where There's Life - Does every single band have to "experiment" with Middle Eastern "sounds"?
Falling Down - Mildly Interesting
(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady - Make it stop
I'm Outta Time - Makes Lionel Richie seem interesting
The Shock of the Lightning - Tries to kick up some dust but just okay.
Waiting for the Rapture - Boring
Bag It Up - Boring

It pains me to type all this but this album is full of mid tempo bland rock songs.

I just stick with the first two albums, nothing else they've done has come close.

Id add the b sides album into that list. But thats it.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Noel should just give up the pretense and join one of those Beatles tribute bands.

Isnt Lennon sampled on one of the songs? The Rutles should sue.I've seen the Bootleg Beatles and they were really good.I also saw Oasis at Knebworth and the whole day was shit.Really.Only illuminated by a bloke who had queued infront of us for 1.5 hours at the beer tent tripping over a tent peg on the the way out and depositing his carefully balanced eight pint cardboard carrier and glasses face down on the floor.I think he started crying.125,000.Two beer tents.

When they started out I thought T. Rex comparisons would have been more dead on.

I don't think Oasis sound so much like the Beatles, however, Noel Gallagher references them so much in his lyrics, you know he must whack off to photos of the Fab 4 every night

Out of curiosity I downloaded it recently and (unbelievably) in the words of Louis Walsh - "I liked it."

I read an article with Noel in the recent Spin Magazine (had to get something to pass the time while my flight back to Raleigh was delayed!). He mentions that Liam wrote a few songs on the new album and also he's off drugs - these could be reasons the albums is not as good

Liam is finally pulling his weight in the songwriting department, isn't he? He wrote three for the new album.

Yeah, he's a good songwriter. I think he regrets not starting earlier. For years I've said, "If you're so convinced you're John Lennon, then prove it."

You quit drugs in the late '90s. "Bag It Up" sounds quite psychedelic. Are you back on mood-altering substances?

No, "Bag It Up" is my little artistic statement. Not in the Coldplay sense. In fact, it's an anti-artistic statement. I spend a lot of time with Serge Pizzorno from Kasabian getting fucking pissed, and he sent me a CD of stuff he was listening to. There was a track by the Pretty Things called "Baron Saturday." I became obsessed by that pounding rhythm, and I decided to write about acid trips I used to have. Running around being a mad cunt on magic mushrooms was my inspiration for them lyrics. I don't want people to think it's art, though.

You missed out one vital track from those listings (don't know if it is missing from the megaload) "The Turning". There was a bit of story about that track over in the UK last week with Cliff Richard fans claiming it was ripping off his 1970s hit "Devil Woman". Judge for yourself with this link, which also has some of the other "inspirations" for Oasis songs:
