Just watched The Cure being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, slightly biased, although I love Roxy too, but they were truly fantastic and completely stole the show! Was surprised just how emotional it was even though for me they are the greatest band of all time, although by all accounts people who aren’t fans agreed, and were blown away too. Great speech by Trent Reznor, loved his comments about what Robert has created while always doing things totally on his own terms, very true! And his voice does seem to just get better!!

Would love to have seen his response when he found out he’d gone viral! Never in all my Cure years have I seen anything in the media quite like the reaction to this, but it is bloody brilliant just like him.

Just been watching The Cure’s live stream of Disintegration from the Sydney Opera House, got to hand it to Bob, what a show! Wasn’t familiar with the first set of b sides and demos from that period but still a good listen, then the album in full which was great. Only planned on having it on while doing other stuff but watched the lot!. Appreciated he was a decent guitarist but he’s much better than I gave him credit for, still got the voice too. My better half commented that he hasn’t gone down the brown hair dye route either, much to his credit, and still has a good head of hair!

Great interview! I still love Pornogtaphy and likewise the shows I saw on that tour, it’s still a very powerful album and has stood the test of time.

They didn’t play anything from it last night at Glastonbury, but what a set! Never thought I’d see The Cure, or Robert Smith, trending on twitter but both have happened recently. Amusing to see the reaction they got, there seemed genuine surprise at how good they are yet, as great as it was that’s them, they never let you down.

Haven't seen the Glastonbury set, something about the all encompassing smugness of the thing winds me up. Really? I hear you say, fc being grumpy about something other people love and enjoy. That aside there was a good interview with him and Jo wiley on the transistor radio yesterday afternoon. He did say something about learning to enjoy festivals and picking a setlust that doesn't have ten minutes of doom and gloom and shouting at the audience that they've got to enjoy it. Or something like that.

Agree, and I heard that interview. Did watch The Cure though on Sunday and thought they nailed it, as Mark Ratcliffe commented afterwards, so many acts over the weekend looked like they had rolled out of Vegas (or words to that effect) then on walked The Cure just being themselves, no backing singers, dancers, guest appearances or asking the crowd if they were “with them” or having a great time, I added the last bit because that drives me mad! Have to say Smithy’s voice hasn’t changed, and confirmed to me that he really doesn’t get the credit deserves as a guitarist. If you like them I’d give it a watch, it was probably the least Glastonbury like set of the weekend

watched a bit of it, looks good to me - though not sure about the audience doing the hands above the head clapping bit - seems they made that up themselves, didn't see, and can't imagine bob doing the come on now, yeah, lets hear ya!!! bit. Gallup looks like he should be in a vampire film (movie - for out american chums, who seem to be away just now).

so anyways, going back to bob, their vid scrolled onto Foo Fighters at Reading and features over six minutes of the hardest working man in rock telling the audience about, well....., himself before starting something that's not bad but, uo know, I think I prefer the Bob Smith - or the mac - thanks for coming - approach. But then, well.
