Coldplay's new album

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

It's not showing up. Anyway there's a Youtube video and the name of the Creaky Board's song is "The Songs I Didn't Write" (ironically!) but I can't find it on Youtube. It was on AOL entertainment news showing the Youtube of the song but the bastards are now saying "page not found"
It does sound identical to the Coldplay song. The band even says Chris Martin was in the audience at one of their recent concerts and seemed to really be enjoying himself........... maybe a little too much? Maybe Eno didn't wake him up yet and he thinks he's in the Creaky Boards!

So I got the new cd. And it's really, really, really OK! I think it stands up against any of Phil Collins' solo work.

The first release Violet Hill is so for a reason - it is the best song. The opening track attempts a "Where the Streets Have No Name" synth intro thing far too long kind of like Van Halen's title track on 1984- the opening track Cemeteries of London has a title Robert Smith should rip off. Oh, is not memorable.

The rest of the cd is ok in that others have done it better already - Violet Hill and Strawberry Swing are a bit like Peter Gabriel's sing along songs - 42 is somewhere between Billy Joel and James - a nice song. Lovers In Japan again has that Peter Gabriel "Solsbury Hill" thing while "Strawberry Swing" has a catchy verse- but lacks a memorable chorus.
"Yes" (which has a good bit of AM drone I like) and Viva La Vida would had benefitted from having Tim Booth in the studio giving tips along with Eno. They are good but should be so much better considering all the hoopla.

I think Eno worked with what he had. If they are going to be a pop band with sing along stadium songs- make the choruses memorable.

I got what I wanted - an easy listening cd to give me a break from all the independent music I have. I would like the cd even more had it been half the price - but I feel I shelled a good buck for an e.p.'s worth of music.

Finally, I can see why you folks in Europe would hate the band - getting the big itune deal and Tesco sales because they do nothing to challenge the listener rather than despite it is enough to aggravate any fan of the first four Bunnymen albums.

Don't be hard on yourself, Jane. I only stumbled upon this link while looking for news about Amy Winehouse and her collapse.

And the sad thing about the song is that the Creaky Boards' The Songs I Didn't Write is so much better, and I bet they didn't have Brian Eno producing their album.

Half. But I really think songs like "In The Air Tonight," "I Don't Care," "Take Me Home," "Against All Odds," and "Like China" were quite amazing. Actually more amazing than anything BUT "Violet Hill" on this album. Folks, we need to start listening a bit more and looking a bit less at music here.

As I kid I bought Genesis's "Land of Confusion" 12 inch, but then the cover and the video did feature Spitting Image puppets.
