The wife kept reminding me she was just feet away from the band at the Palladium during the Some Great Reward tour.
We were close enough to see it was really the band but I would have liked to have been closer. Dave's voice was in great shape for all of the show but maybe the last three songs he became slightly hoarse but still gave it his all and still sounded really good regardless. Martin sounded amazing all night long and was much more animated than in shows past. I think the hightlight of the night for me (besides Come Back) was Gore's version of "Home" just him over piano. It was stunning and again his voice sounded great. Come Back was perfectly done and I loved Fly on the Windscreen, A Question of Time and Walking In My Shoes. Dave truly is one of the great rock frontmen. He gave it his all and now I see how he tears those calve muscles. Andy was Andy and thankfully didn't clap much.
This was a great show and it reminded me of why I love Depeche Mode so much. It was so exciting to see Dave slithering on stage and Martin nervously shuffling to the microphone when his songs came up. I would have liked to have heard Suffer Well, A Pain That I'm Used To, It Doesn't Matter or See You but I enjoyed the setlist regardless.
I think when management said their was no appetite for 50 somethings doing dark music, they forgot to take DM in for consideration. No reason why the Bunnymen can't craft songs just as amazing as DM's recent output.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
