The Obligatory Depeche Mode thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

And Turtles.com of course. There are 960 posts on BF's "Seven ways to avoid Soft Shell" topic.

Not Bunnymen-related. And not from the same thread.

ATHENS (AFP) – British electronic band Depeche Mode cancelled a long-awaited gig in Athens on Tuesday after frontman David Gahan was rushed to hospital, Greek media reported.

Quoting organisers of the concert, City 99.5 Radio said Gahan was taken to a private clinic with suspected gastroenteritis. Other news reports said the concert could be held on Wednesday if his condition improved.

Around 30,000 people had gathered at the Terra Vibe park near Athens, paying up to 100 euros a ticket to watch one of Britain's most successful and longest-lived bands.

Famous for a string of hits including "Just can't get enough", Depeche Mode have sold tens of millions of albums worldwide since their formation in 1980 in Basildon, Essex.

Their Tour of the Universe through Europe, the United States, Canada and South America began in Israel on May 10 and is scheduled to move on to Turkey on May 14.

Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

When did you start feeling confident that you could sing?

I think that is still a work in progress, I really do [laughs]. I don't like the sound of my own voice. But I find that if I dig deep in my heart and get more honest about who I am, stripping away the bullshit, then I get to a place that I do like.

Do you listen to a lot of electronic music?

Funnily enough, the music that I enjoy the most doesn't really use any electronics. Be it Nick Cave or the White Stripes or PJ Harvey or Muddy Waters or Neil Young, you won't find much synthesizer on any of that.

Your heart stopped in 1996 after you OD'd on a speedball. Do you remember anything from that near-death experience?

What I really felt was this overwhelming feeling of whatever it was I was doing to myself was clearly wrong. And all I really saw was blackness. I was kind of a goner. That was the start of me trying to do something different with my life.

I love Dave. After that incident my Dad and I saw an interview with Gahan and you could see the shame he felt and he was so apologetic to his fans. My Dad who is a pretty tough customer and thinks all my music is shit was moved and he said he seems like a good guy he really hoped things would work out for him.

Jesus BF - you're right!

Due to illness of singer Dave Gahan the Depeche Mode show in Istanbul on May 14th is cancelled.

Dave was taken ill shortly before he was due to take the stage in Athens on May 12th, which resulted in his hospitalisation and cancellation of the show.

A new announcement will follow soon with regard to a either a new rescheduled date for this Depeche Mode Istanbul concert, or it's final cancellation. Organisers kindly request that ticket holders keep hold of their tickets, which will be valid if a new show date is scheduled, or will be refunded in the event that the show is cancelled altogether.

I'm leaning towards the Green Apple Splatters. I think Dave really has turned his life around for good.

I love the posts that start "my cousin was the ambulance driver and he said....."

My stepdad (Not Nick Cave) told me the Richard Gere gerbil story starting off like that.

Having said that moderators on DM forums are locking threads and deleting speculation left, right and centre. The gastroenteritus story doesnt seem to be getting much credence.

It couldnt happen again...could it?
