The Obligatory Depeche Mode thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Best of the SOTU extra tracks from the box set...

Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

My favorite Violator track but you can REALLY hear the difference in Gahan's voice pre and post rehab.

Based on what Wilder added to Depeche Mode's music would anyone be comfortable giving him co-songwriting credits or should he have gotten producer credits? Either way even Gahan has said that Wilder didn't get enough credit and that he felt Gore probably even saw it the same way. I don't know if Gore has said anything on the topic but it would be interesting. I know other bands have been very generous with songwriting credits regardless of the size of actual contributions then you have the sole songwriter type individuals.

Does anyone know if the internal workings of DM included Gore refusing to allow (with rare exceptions) others to contribute songs or were the other member's not confident in their abilities? Or maybe they knew a good thing when they saw it and felt it best not to rock the boat?

And more importantly can I get this thing to 23 pages?

This shit is pretty funny.

Lyrics

Alan Charles Wilder is never coming to back to Depeche Mode
So stop posting about it on the interweb again and again
Alan Charles Wilder is never ever coming to back to Depeche Mode
Not even if Martin gave him a billion dollars
Yeah

The Halo track you posted may be post rehab or he may still have been on the junk. The "LA hair" is said to be his junk time.

I thought Gore wanted sole writing credit. He grudgingly allowed Gahan to put tacks on and it would seem with SOTU, he actually worked with Gahan.

Here is some wiki stuff you probably have already read:

"Fletcher has also said to be the member that brings the band together, as he was one of the main factors in helping build a compromise that settled the serious dispute between Gahan and Gore over songwriting duties for Playing the Angel."

On June 1st 1995 (his 36th birthday), Alan announced his departure from Depeche Mode: "Due to increasing dissatisfaction with the internal relations and working practices of the group, it is with some sadness that I have decided to part company from Depeche Mode. My decision to leave the group was not an easy one particularly as our last few albums were an indication of the full potential that Depeche Mode was realising. Since joining in 1982, I have continually striven to give total energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the furthering of the group's success and in spite of a consistent imbalance in the distribution of the workload, willingly offered this. Unfortunately, within the group, this level of input never received the respect and acknowledgement that it warrants. Whilst I believe that the calibre of our musical output has improved, the quality of our association has deteriorated to the point where I no longer feel that the end justifies the means. I have no wish to cast aspersions on any individual; suffice to say that relations have become seriously strained, increasingly frustrating and, ultimately, in certain situations, intolerable. Given these circumstances, I have no option but to leave the group. It seems preferable therefore, to leave on a relative high, and as I still retain a great enthusiasm and passion for music, I am excited by the prospect of pursuing new projects. The remaining band members have my support and best wishes for anything they may pursue in the future, be it collectively or individually."

Ha I can't believe Fletcher said this:

Alan was never an original member of Depeche Mode. He became, through the grace of us, a full time member of Depeche Mode after he was employed by us as a musician and he chose to leave. If it had been Martin OR MYSELF or Dave leaving, it might have been more serious, because we are the original spirit in the band.

I'm pretty sure that Halo video is pre rehab. Once he cleaned up he got rid of that embarrassing hairdo and the Spinal Tap garage sale wardrobe.
