Glasvegas!!

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Wondered just a few days ago what Glasvegas were up to even though they are a "friend" on my myspace page; now I know. Can't keep up with these bands.

I fancy going to see them in a few weeks, they were pretty good when opening for the Bunnymen at the Liverpool 'Ocean Rain' Show.

I saw them in 2008, not with the Bunnymen. Excellent live, but I think like so many bands you hear the latest or debut album and then forget about them. Then a new album comes out and they come back onto the radar again. Probably why I'm liking British Sea Power more and more now and it's taken a while - at least they release eps and tour in between albums to keep your interest going. Seeing them this weekend.

They had a couple of really amazing songs - and enough time to make sure the next batch matches up along with Flood on board - signs are hopeful.

Seen them a couple of times and quite like them but that singer James Allen is a real twat, he's so irritating, he needs to be told that only a select few can get away with looking cool in sunglasses when the sun isn't shining and he's not one of them

Unless accompanied by a labrador in a dayglo harness of course.

And the music? It's an echo in the bunny warren, cavernous and pompous and vast, and the band have clearly been well educated by flood; and atop it all, Allan's gurgling, mangled vocal that's perhaps the most intriguing thing about Glasvegas. All of this could be taken as criticism, but let us assure you it is not.

New album arrived over the weekend with a lovely shiny orange vinyl 7" courtesy of those nice people at HMV. Though still unmistakably Glasvegas, it's a much fuller, bigger sound than the debut album, tracks 7, 8,9 (I Feel Wrong, Euphoria Take My Hand and Lots Sometimes) is a cracking section but there isn't really a weak song on it. Really looking forward to seeing them at the end of the month, having only seen them as support at the Ocean Rain show in 2008. Good to have them back and in such great form.

There have been some mixed reviews. I read one at the weekend that gave it two stars out of five saying that it is not as good as the debut album. Haven't bought it yet, but will get round to it at some point. Don't know if I'll see them live this time. They looked quite cool the first time round and that frumpy drummer walked out, which had to be done - while Jameswhatshisface has decided to dress like Marc Almond or Bono - and now they have an unknown bespeckled Swede drummer with a wacky haircut but much slimmer. She looks slightly odd drumming and must be aged about 12.

Right.....saw them play in Wolvo the other week.....really good gig.The new drummer has arms like a hod carrier.Setlist then mainly old.Now had the album a week........I love it.Forget the terrace anthems, this is a brilliant angst ridden set of songs that takes time....but really there isnt a bad song on it and Dream,Dream,Dreaming is absolutely mega.Very 80's post punk production-World even has Killing Moon drone chords in it.

Ok-they are OTT but hey stick with them. And any band who can finish with your glaswegian Mom responding to a convict coming out of jail should be applauded."Now son....the monsters are goooooon"

BUY!
